aaahhhhh..... the delima that ZJ owners have faced for years....

I saw (somehwere) where a TJ owner removed the face from his cheap little compact 40ch CB and mounted it inside the ashtray. The main body was sowed away. There were only a few wires that ran between the face and the main circuitboard. I thought about doing that in my ZJ... but decided not to, since I keep my insurance stuffs in there in case I get stopped for speeding. (yea... right...)

Default Cool Tech UltraMount Failure Mode

So, my dealer was nice enough to test out the Failure Mode for the Cooltech Ultramount for me yesterday.

Took the beast in for routine service, ... oil change, flash the radio, etc... and the dealer decided to be nice and wash it for me. Well, while it was in their fully-automated car wash, (you know, the big ones with all the spinning brushes and what not...) apparently one of those spinning objects elected to wrap itself around the antenna and send it on a long vacation.

Good news is that the Ultramount itself is fully intact, untouched and functional. The failure occurred immediately at the base of the antenna, which was sheared off cleanly. So, for any of you who worried about the integrity of this system under stress. Don't worry, the antenna fails LONG before the mount will.

Props to Ultramount for a solid product!

Can the Antenna be easily removed leaving only a small plug on top of the license plate? I would only use the CB when offroading, and I wouldn't want the antenna there all the time. Thanks!

Default New antenna is already here

Dealer was great about it! Just over 24 hours and a new antenna was in my hand. Having the antenna broken was a bit of a bummer, but overall the experience was excellent! I am very pleased with the Ultramount, and very pleased with a prompt and responsible reaction by the dealer (Airpark in Scottsdale, AZ by the way). Thanks for the offer to send out another, but it is unnecessary.

It has been one of those weeks where I am reminded that there are still companies out there that care enough to create a great product, and are still concerned with customer service.

Thanks again to CoolTech and Airpark.

Default Yes the antenna is easily removed....

Yes it can be, and I should have thought of that before allowing it to go through the wash.... In the future that is exactly what I will do.
