Has anyone installed an aftermarket standard sized radio and installed a smaller CB under in the open space?

The directions to remove the factory plastic is easy enough and I have the electric windows on a 4 door, still no big deal. the putting in of the new Tuffy takes some finese (sp). I have an 09 with the little cargo net at base of dash, first remove this! or you will scratch it up

The instructions get a little week here and there is a definite order of operations to be done!

As instructed, install wiring for the power point(cigarette lighter) then assembel the inside of the box divider(s) you have 2 choises, one is for a radio as pictured or a blank wall for more storage space, I opted for #2.

Put some tape on your shift lever and plastic base trim to protect it and then with 2 people drop the center in to place. It bolts back down to the factory 4 points and you can add 2 more bolts with drilling 2 holes in floor for more security.

all in all not bad and I really like the raised SOFT arm pad!
How did you remove the shifter knobs? This looks like a real PITA.

It doesn't look bad from outside the Jeep either.

Very clean install. That is were I mounted my Cobra 29 in my old '99 TJ and would like to do the same in my new '08 JK. I have two questions....

- Does the radio interfer with the compass?

- Any pictures on where and how you mounted the antenna?

Thanks,
AZ

Oh, and a very nice looking Jeep too!!!

Many thanks, AZ.

I haven't noticed any thing wrong with the compass. Haven't checked it for accuracy, but today it seemed right.

Here is a shot of the antenna mount from CoolTec.

Is it possible to install a Uniden Prop 510XL beneath the temperature control switches? I have not looked real close as this is for my brothers jeep, but I haven't seen any one try it so am not sure what is behind that plate. I have seen toggle switches there, but never a CB....any help for a newb?

There is a big flat peice of metal behind that plate. I looks like the support for the center of the dash. It is very heavy duty and you wont be able get a radio in there. You can pry the panel off easily. Just use a flathead screw driver and wedge it between the grey plastic side peices and the top right edge. Then do the left side. The bottoms dont have clips they just have a pair of tabs that rest in 2 holes. It lifts right out. If you run your CB on the top of the dash you will get good at prying that piece off to route your antenna cable.[IMG][/IMG]

I like that setup, but I can't imagine slamming on the brakes with the mic in hand, etc.

jahlers,

I just got the same setup. I got a bracket to mount it left-side knee-height driver's side on the center console Isle O' Plastic. No cutting, 5 minute install to hang the unit. Uses the bolt on the left side of the center console. Like 25 clams from Quadratec.

Installation this weekend. (Hopefully. Not digging 35 degree temps for the install.)

BTW, really nice Jeep! I can tell you've put major thought into your setup thus far. I have a 4-door am liking the 2-door.

It's too clean though. One demerit!
