Tuffy made the main compartment about 1/2" longer so it wouldn't be such a tight fit with the coax coming out the back. It still depends on the specific radio hopefully the modification you mentioned won't be necessary for everyone.

Maybe Tuffy should make an overhead that doesn't have a locking box and is just a sheet of metal so that we can bolt up whatever radio we want?

what happens to the spaker in those CB's mounted inside the tuffy console? Can you still hear them, or do you need to hook up an external speaker?

They have holes in the bottom and you are supposed to still be able to hear them. Not sure how good it works though

The Tuffy box just adds to the 'canned' sound of the CBs internal speaker. An external speaker is definitely a must.

I also have a 2-door flame red Jeep, not Ruby though.

I have that EXACT same model of CB mounted in the EXACT same spot!

Is it a full moon tonight?

Oh, those wondering, when I mounted mine, like the one above, I just used the screws that came with it. Used 3 actually, one in middle and one on each side. No worries about it falling down, it's solid as a rock, never had it move at all. I used the walkthrough on project-jk.com, here's the link...
