Default New HAM Radio! Yaesu ftm-350!

Just upgraded my older Yaesu 8800 for a new Yaesu 350 with APRS and lots of other goodies! All jeepers need to move to HAM radio and leave the CBs at home! So much nicer!

Whats nicer about Ham? Im trying to find the pros to having that system over cb for trail use. Is it better for the hobby of radio talk or does it range further than CB? Sorry not a radio guy as u can see.

Much better range and clearer.

Install looks good. I don't know why more don't get their license. Their are a few of us in my local club. But, nobody users out on the trail. Everyone is stuck on cb it's cheap and no license rq I love my aprs too.

Did you fab the mount?

Much clearer and range is much better especially if you use local repeaters. In my area we have multiple ones that are linked together. So for example, I can be in anywhere in my county and key up and hear any other jeepers. A Jeep community would have a big influence on HAM radio if they all got there licenses. Once you try one, you wouldn't have it any other way.

Hell if you all had APRS, you could see each jeep on a GPS map in real time all there locations on a trail along with speed and altitude. Ext. way cool.

Looks great!

HAM radio is 200% better the CB's
For that matter FRS radios are better then CB's
HAM radios for instance can be easier to install, 2M/70cm don't have the RFI problems that some have with CB installs. A mobile has more power output, typical 50W instead of 4W, repeaters allow for further comms., ARPS as talked about, hand helds (HT's) 5W work great. These are just to name a few pros of HAM radio vs CB.
HF Ham radio requires a little more work, but then your abilities become unlimited.
HAM radios do require a license and do cost more.

Wow, nice install. Funny thing, I just ordered the FTM350AR yesterday for my JKU. Looks as though your state doesn't require the interior rear view mirror. While I'm going to use the ARR radio mount bar, I wonder if you have some other photos of the custom radio console?

Amazing set up! Can you please tell more about this console? Also programming that scanner? I have the same and the only thing I programmed was a headache!

Ok I'm interested. I currently have a cb. Would I need another antenna for a ham or can it share. I don't want to look like a rc jeep with two antennas out back!
