No just take the lens off there are 2 screws that hold the overhead light in place. Go back in this post and you will see the over head hanging. I just soldered the wires right there. Of course you need to run the wires first.

Love the idea of red lights so you don't blind yourself early in the morning!

I have no idea. Have you tried bending the metal back? They're just wedge lamps so bend it back to a point where it makes a tight connection.

I wanted more light in my cargo area, so I spliced a diffused KC Cyclone into the rear dome light. It's bright but I wasn't overly impressed. The putco leds bulbs also helped. Thought about a couple more of these wired to their own switch and power supply.

Thanks! They will get a trial run in a month as we are planning our annual canoe/camping trip to Northern Michigan!

Agreed! I can't take credit for it though, someone had mentioned the idea earlier in this thread.

Maybe I can get some help with an idea that I have, I want to wire in an LED strip into my cargo area, I'm currently running with a security enclosure and when I'm in the back looking for something, it is dark under the the enclosure and wanted the LED to come on when the courtesy lights come on. What would I need to wire the LED strip into, which wires? Also was thinking that maybe I would install a switch to turn the strip on after the courtesy lights went out and I'm still back there doing something.

Any help for this would be greatly appreciated, I'm a novice when it comes to electrical.

Sounds like a 3 way switch would work best for you. This schematic was for footwell lights, one on each side, but you could just do one of them. The switch will allow you to either have it come on with the dome automatically, or never have it come on, or have it come on manually.
