Default Daytime Running Lights

I just modified my JK by programming the daytime running lights "on", with the AEV Procal.

It was easy and it took a fraction of a second to do.

I tried all the configurations, except the parking lights.

High beams on at 1/2 voltage: Too dim to be effective, IMO.

Low beams on at 1/2 voltage: Too dim to be effective, IMO.

Fog lights on at full voltage: Bright enough to be effective.
I say full voltage because I see no brightness difference between DRL fogs, and fogs on with the switch.

The fog lights turn off when the headlights are turned on, (can be relighted with the regular control switch).
On the automatic, the fog lights (DRL) turn off when the transmission is in park.
The fog lights (DRL) turn off when the parking brake is raised.

thats really cool what u did!!

BUT...

is this how lazy our society has become is we have to have automatic light switches for our jeeps???? are we too lazy now to take a second to turn lights on and off???

all this is too me if it comes standard is another way for a car manufacturer to incorporate more cost into the vehickle and ripp people off by adding another useless feature.

sorry i had to comment about that

Daylight running lights are usually set to come on automatically because people don't think about turning lights on during the day, not because people are too lazy (though I might be ). They are only set to automatic on the Jeep in areas that require it by law.

I don't think wanting such a simple feature can be termed laziness.
Laziness would be knowing you should check your oil level now and then, but not doing it because you don't feel like getting a rag, popping the hood, pulling the dip stick, cleaning it off, reinserting the dip stick, pulling the dip stick AGAIN, looking at the level, reinserting the dip stick, and closing and re-latching the hood.

hahaha ok so maybe my term of laziness is not correct. i cant believe its law in some areas, come on how hard is it to turn on the lights?? i guess its just the way things are these days, everything is being set to automatic wth all kinds of technology.

pretty soon we will have a button on our key chain that opens the door fully and after u get in it closes behind u. then as soon as u sit in the seat, the car automaticaly starts, and this one is in development, a car that drives itself.

im just waiting for the toilet that rolls up tp, wipes my ass, washes my hands, thanks me for being a crappy customer and tells me to piss off when im done, all becuase i might forget to wipe and wash after taking a dump!!

see what im getting at here, i am 100% for inovation in technology but damn, some of this stuff is just getting ridiculous

sorry ronjen, hope i didnt highjack toomuch on this one!

Daytime running lights are now the law in most countries, the US is just a little behind on this one, it really is a good safety feature and saves lives, it's not that we are lazy, i cant speak for you but my memory is fantastic it is just short and i doubt that i would remember to turn the lights on every time i start the jeep.

Thats pretty cool. Is it possible to program it with the front indicator lights only? I always though it would make a good daytime running light.

Thanks for the write-up. I just got my ProCal in today. I turned off my TPMS, adjusted my speedo for the tires, and wanted to just run the fogs (RL) only when driving (not lazy, but hate the Jeep switch that makes you run all parking lights if you want to turn on the running lights).
I was racking my brain cuz it didn't seem to work in the garage.
Works when you take it out of PARK!
Duh, guess thats why they call 'em Running lights.
Thanks again......

I got the Procal to adjust for my tire size, but since it had the DRL option I took advantage of it. I have mine set foe the indicators/ parking lights to come on as DRL's. The upside, I always have lights on, the downside, by setting these lights as DRL's the green indicator lights in my instrument column stay on too until I turn the lights on. I might have to change to fogs or low beams instead. As for the low of high beams being too dim, it is important to remember that the purpose of DRL's are to help people see you, not for you to see the road. It doesn't take much light to be more visible while driving. Just my $.02. FYI, I have a 6 speed and the DRL's come on after e-brake is off.
