Just picked up a Sahara Unlimited with mygig. Mygig seems nice so far, well -- the audio/visual part that is. Unfortunately, on pickup, the navigation system within mygig was not working. I told dealer I would read the manual over the weekend, as the dealer had no idea how it works.

Anyway, the gps info shows no satellite information. All Maps seem to be there, but the gps never picks up satellites, thus -- can't find where I am..

Anyone have a similar situation? Running the hard-top now. Curious if the top may be blocking the signal somehow...

Any ideas?? Not feeling very confident the dealership will be able to fix this issue yet, as I doubt they have seen this issue before..

 

top shouldnt make a difference. the avenger has a harder top, and the antenna is down inside the car anyway

 

Must have a problem. My "MyGig" works great. Once they remedy yours I am pretty sure you will be stoked. Should work flawlessly though.
Just curious, does the Serius Sat. Radio work?

 

Yes. The SIRIUS does work fine. Does it share the same antenna? I found the antenna in the sports bar directly behind passenger front seat. I know for a fact this is the sirius antenna. But wasn't sure if it was also for the GPS.

in MYGIG, when I choose NAV -> GPS Settings. Most of the time, I see 0 satellites. Occassionally, i see 5-6 satellites and my position gets locked in. How many sats do you normally see?

Also interesting, once I am locked in, even when the satellites go back to 0, the gps unit is able to track where I am going. Seems like a really nice unit -- just want to get it stable..

how many you 'see' will depend on the quality of the reciever...

There are 23 or 24 in space, I believe; and you need three to get a position.

Well, three gets you 2 positions, but since 1 of those would be in space, it assumes your on the other one.

My Garmin could only find 8 MAX, my new GPS can find 12 at once, although I think the most it ever showed was 11

I want a MyGig in my Jeep; but I do feel I would worry parking it with the top down (theft)

How well is it locked in there? **glances at his tool chest**

I can normally see around 6, and haven't noticed a difference when I have the hardtop off. I am having another issue though - about half the time I go to use the Nav system and all of my settings have changed. The only reason that I notice is b/c I have the voice prompts turned off and they keep turning themselves back on. Has anyone else noticed this?

As far as theft goes, I'm a litle worried about that too. I wish someone would make a type of weatherproof security cover that you could lock into place when parked (or when it's raining and you get caught with the top off).

 

I have noticed that if I set the Nav prompts volume higher...say 20 and save it...it reverts back to 11 or 8 the next time I start the Jeep

 

My mygig nav issue was resolved by the dealership. Turned out the mygig head unit needed to be replaced. Brand new unit installed in one day.

Now reading 7-8 sat's consistently!

 

Scarey....I just picked upm ine this morning...And am running into the same exact issue. Everything works great except navigation. Not satellites, occassionaly it shows 1... Calles service right away and got "Oh man, the guy who handles that left just 5 mins ago..." Yeah sure. So Iw ill get it taken care of Monday. No biggie for me this weekend. Just would have liked it to work "Out of the box" if you know what I mean...
