Default Replacing entire infinity system!

Next week I'm gutting the my entire stereo. It's not that the infinity system is bad... just not that great. I have a few questions on replacing the head unit.

What all do I need to replace the HU? I know I need 1) in dash mounting kit 2) radio antenna adaptor(do I need an extension?)

Also looking for clever amp mounting locations. I would like all components to be fairly hidden.

I'm rewiring the all speakers so probably waisting money with PAC kit. Right?

Setup: Sony MEX-1GP HU
Kicker ZX-350.4
Polk DB6501 comp. front
Polk DB651 Rear
Sony XM-9001GTR Factory Sub (overkill I know)

Amazon's prices on the kicker and polks are very good if your interested.

Will take some pics for show and tell. can't wait!

Perceptions are so funny...I think the 7 speaker Infinity stereo option is awesome. It's the last thing on my Jeep that I'd want to replace! Your new system is going to be amazing!

Sorry but no, I will not be selling the old system. I never get rid of factory equipment incase I trade it in.

The install start tomorrow!! Can't wait. Not quite sure how everything will fit but I will figure it out. Here are a few pics. Never documented an install before but going to take a swing at it. Wish me luck, going to need it.

I see you're in Baton Rouge. I'd say I'll see you around, but it sounds like I'll hear you first.

Good luck!

Thumbs up

Under the front seats always seem to be a fav for installing amps. If your removing your stock infinity amp that location under the steering wheels always good. I used the very rear storage compartment for my sub amp, and built a stealthy looking enclosure and mounted front and rear speaker amps on passenger rear seat. Rear quarters also seem to be a great mounting place on 4drs.

I also wanted to mention that as far as the PAC unit, I myself used it and I also did not remove my amp. I'm just not running anything off of it.

ID:	136170Hey there and welcome to the club you will love your choice in upgrading your sound system! Best mod I have done so far as I have not done tires/lift

I was originally going to install my two amplifiers under the two front seats (i have a 2dr) But the 2011 allows the front passenger seat to move all the way forward and kind of up onto the dash so wiring all of this would be a pain in the a**. I instead put my two amplifiers in the little cubby in the trunk.

Now there are some positives and negatives to choosing this location for the amps! A huge negative is that when ever it rains and the top is off the jeep water seems to always pool in this area for everyone which obviously is a huge problem because amps are RIDICULOUSLY expensive and highly prone to water. But the positives are that they are out of sight and out of mind unless you want to show them off then pop the cubby open! Plus thief's would not know they are there if you have your jeep broken into or top off.

So to solve this instead of just buying marine amps I did a few mods. My first one is one I hope to never have to test but I did it as a precaution. I built a small platform with carpet that fit to the contours of the cubby but did not fit air tight around it. I did this so I had something to bolt the amplifiers to and so that god forbid if water entered the cubby it would go down below the amps and out the drain plug (make sure to pull it during rain storms or it wont be effective )

I hope this works if water ever gets into the cubby but I have never tested and hope not to test. Second I basically just cut out a board of wood and lined it with this water proof material. I then rest the board over the cubby which helps to detour water to other places.

Third and final. I just try to make sure water never gets back there in large quantities. I have a deck cover that I run and dont care about the front getting wet as long as the back end is protected from direct rain the other safety measures should stop any serious damage from occurring.

Sorry that I do not have any pictures of this but here is my jeep, my kicker subwoofer, and my single din alpine. Details are in my signature and once again sorry for not having pictures of the amp set up.

Hope all this helped and you made it through the wall of text let me know if you need help on anything
