Default Patrol Officers Weigh In

It was always my impression that it was illegal to use off-road lights mounted on the windshield on public roads and they are to remain covered while on public highways. It has also been my belief that to use off-road lighting on public roads they must be mounted below the factory headlights.
Right or wrong.

Well I'm not a police officer. But I do know that all lighting used on the road have to be DOT approved. And used in the correct manner ( driving lights w/ high beams, fog lights w/ low beams ). Lighting intended for off-road use is not DOT.

Depends on state law. I've been pouring through the Alaska statutes but saw no clear cut rules on aux lighting. Most states allow a maximum of four forwad facing lights but the AS doesn't even make mention of that.

I went with the LED Dually's from OffRoad Warehouse. They are small yet decently bright. I can just see the edge of the pass. side light when I'm driving. The ones I have are more flood than spot pattern, so I can't say how far they reach.

Also, I use them for off-road only. Even then I end to stay a bit back from the vehicle ahead - so they don't get blinded in their mirrors. Anything up too high will be tough on oncoming vehicles or drivers ahead of you.

That's a great shot in the dark with the lights on.

I like your windshield brackets. I looked around at a lot of them but haven't seen ones that look exactly like yours.
