i hardly EVER need to use my brakes with the stick...

seems like an auto, you'd always be on the brakes.
not for me, i want to have my brakes when i NEED them.
not burn them up on the down hill side.

Check that thread for more comments.

I used to think I'd want a manual on and off road, but lately I've been rethinking my choice. I think I want a DD that's a 6spd and a dedicated trail rig that's auto.
Guess it depends on the kinda driving conditions you will be encountering. Personally, I've done it both ways and find automatic to be more enjoyable.

2-door 6-speed fully stock. My first manual that I have ever owned....

Never had so much fun.

From a "noob" point of view since i have only been driving stick for about a year and a half now, is that most people burn their clutches not by slipping it too much, but by reving the engine while they do it.

I hear in videos and in person people riding the clutch while keeping the engine at 2 sometimes 3k. It's no wonder they smoke it. Unless i just have not been in a situation that calls for it, I keep the RPM around 1k and let the clutch out to where i need it. I try to make it as short and sweet as possible, and have not smoked it yet.

Yea I'm descendant from that crowd. Manual all the way. Besides it gives my right hand something to do

I've always enjoyed a manual, just my preference.
It does kinda suck in stop and go traffic but I still love it.

I live in an Alpine area. I use the manual gear selection capability on my auto frequently. I doubt that my brakes are used any more than if I had a manual Jeep.

Having a 242 transfercase would make a big difference as enging braking is available on all four wheels without having to shift in and out of 4hi-pt and 2hi. I got 60,000 miles from the brakes in my first auto/np242 XJ and that was with offroad use.

I would say manual I love it. I guess because I am so used to driving a manual that I prefer it over Auto.

I do agree even tho mine is a auto. I keep wishing I would have purchased the manual for that reason.
