Manual or Auto for offroading
I've never owned an automatic transmission. Have to say I'm surprised, I thought the Jeep crowd would be hard core manual transmission guys. smoking the clutch is driving wrong. I use the e brake as my third leg when I need it, works fine.
I'm not really anti-auto or anything, just never owned one and it feels weird to drive to me.

Manuals are fun to drive, I have owned one for years, but the fun stops (for me) when the pucker kicks in on an off-camber ledge 10 miles from a road.
I went with an auto in my new jeep for just this reason.

I used to think I'd want a manual on and off road, but lately I've been rethinking my choice. I think I want a DD that's a 6spd and a dedicated trail rig that's auto.
Ok, that's not gonna happen so I'll probably end up with an auto, but still not 100% committed. If I don't find a great deal on an auto, then I'll stick to a manual and just wait for the HEMI swap to get the auto.

Wow never thought this would make it to 5 pages guess I hit a nerve anyways I was just wanting to see what the majority was running just out of curosity. Myself I have the manual I love it so far but havent really done any serous offroading (YET)
Manuals are fun and great for rockin out of a swampy stituation but autos are just some much easier to play with AND enjoy the trail, especially if you got some one with you and you are out messin around.
