I'll take a manual in a sports car but offroad, give me that torque converter with the automatic.

I do love a stick, and it definetly feels like you are more in control, but driving into the city everyday I will take my Auto...

I've never owned an automatic transmission. Have to say I'm surprised, I thought the Jeep crowd would be hard core manual transmission guys. smoking the clutch is driving wrong. I use the e brake as my third leg when I need it, works fine.

I'm not really anti-auto or anything, just never owned one and it feels weird to drive to me.

Manuals are fun to drive, I have owned one for years, but the fun stops (for me) when the pucker kicks in on an off-camber ledge 10 miles from a road. I went with an auto in my new jeep for just this reason.

Prefer a manual, more control over rocks and on the trail.

Check that thread for more comments.

I used to think I'd want a manual on and off road, but lately I've been rethinking my choice. I think I want a DD that's a 6spd and a dedicated trail rig that's auto.

Ok, that's not gonna happen so I'll probably end up with an auto, but still not 100% committed. If I don't find a great deal on an auto, then I'll stick to a manual and just wait for the HEMI swap to get the auto.
I'm in the same boat waiting for bossy wife to give me permision, says she will divorce me if I buy a Jk

Manuals are fun and great for rockin out of a swampy stituation but autos are just some much easier to play with AND enjoy the trail, especially if you got some one with you and you are out messin around.
