I've been considering a snorkel lately...

Wow dude. That's seriously tempting fate right there.

The water by your right headlight is only inches away from your air intake...and not vertical inches either.

If you're running through stuff like that (even occasionally) I would get a snorkel and extend your breather tubes YESTERDAY

I'm glad that you made it, and glad that your JK isn't damaged. I hope that you changed (or at least checked) your diff fluid after that.

I've seen Jeeps hydrolock in less water than that.

I've got Xtreme 33's. My breather lines were extended and are nice and high, but yes, I do need a snorkel if I want to do that again and still have an engine! The water was actually on the hood for a second or two... above the intake!

What not to do (very many times in a row)

(clickable for more info)

and everyone is right....snorkel may be great for protecting the engine....
but not electrical.

....and, um...clean water would be a better idea.

Bit late for your truck, but a few hours spent filling the electronics with potting compound will do make most electronics survice a bit of a dunking.

I've gone round my JK sealing up everything critical that I can find....

One more thing....if your friend's aren't driving Jeeps, then don't assume that they can follow you!

Do you have a list or guide of places you found to seal up? I was thinking along the same lines...

I will see if I can put together a complete list, but essentially...

All the ECU units
Any control units on the canbus
Dash Panels
Switch Panels
Variable Geometry Turbo Controller (I have a diesel)
Any Sensors with air gaps (most of the engine sensors are already sealed)
Major multiplugs on the engine/chassis loom (seal the inside of the connectors so that water can't get into the joints)

I just punched the gas and a few seconds later my jk was climbing the slick bank on the other side. I was about 5 feet down from where I was aiming. (The water pushed me). I let it sit and run for about 10 mins while I thought about what had just happened. My jeep never even sputtered and recieved no damage. I'm guessing a few seconds more would of be bad. I now own a 09 unlimited and I check the weather.

Be careful what you cross.
