RIver Crossing
Check the vid in my sig. at some point in that vid I go deep w/o a snorkel.
The best advice I can give is walk the line your going to cross... it might be dirty but it's better then having your jeep crap out on you. When we didnt feel like walking my passanger would usually use a stick to measure the water ahead of us if it got above my tire.

Here are some pics of me doing a crossing... made my butt pucker a little so I snorked it:

AEV Snorkel:

To me the investment of a little over 300 bucks was worth it... just that much more insurance from a hydro-lock, even though flooding your Jeep presents other problems as well.

If you have a manual try not to shift when the trans is under water. Also know that the axle breather tubes and air box could get water in if the water is too high. I personally would not go in water above the frame without a snorkel and raising the breather tubes. Jeep is just to expensive to risk.
The differentials on the Jeep are not sealed, they in fact have breather tubes that run out and up into the wheel well area if I'm not mistaken. I haven't actually hand over handed the lines to verify but that's what I'm told.
It didn't look this deep when the two guys before me went through it, maybe it was their 37's... Anyway, the water went over the hood
, about a foot up, for a few seconds and had me seriously rethinking my decision, but I kept on the gas and it came out pretty quick. I've been considering a snorkel lately...
