Could be also that they bought a four door if over landing was the plan.

Well, here is mine. It's an 07' with over 100,000 miles on it. We bought it new and it has been awesome since day 1. We had no need for a 4 door at the time, and now that we have a little one, a 4 door would be nice, but a 2 door is what we have and is really what I prefer. I'm not into rock crawling. We have the JK for access to cool places. Living in SW Colorado, there is no shortage of 4 wheel drive access campsites. Sure, we don't go out on month long expeditions, however we do want to go out and not have to worry about going back to town for a few days.

Barricade roof rack with ebay cargo basket. The rack rattled like crazy so rather than the electrical tape fix, I drilled holes at each junction and tack welded a nut on the inside of the male end. Once the stock bolts were snug, I ran a bolt into each nut I tacked in and it pulled it all nice and tight with no rattles.

I didn't like the stock crossbars on the rack so I welded in some of my own. It lowered the profile of the rack and gave me five mounting points instead of the 3 that the rack came with.

I have a Rolle Platypus bag for the basket. Waterproof and fits well with plenty of storage space.

Winch for self recovery. It is wired to switches inside the cab so it's easy and quick to use.

Fenders are trimmed due to not wanting to break one off when wheeling. The last thing I want to do is find a place to store a large, awkward piece of plastic when we still have three days left in the backcountry.



Hilift jack on a homemade mount. I used the MBRP kit to beef up the spare mount, however I was really not impressed with the kit and feel it will need some modification to be effective.

I have two rotopax cans that I still need to mount.

Third brake light moved to inside the spokes of the spare to increase visibility when using the rear view mirror.

Backup camera is waiting to be mounted in the center cap of the spare.

Bike rack comes off and hitch D ring is mounted when traveling.



Superchips Traildash to adjust tuning.

Aftermarket stereo with screen for backup camera. (no such thing as too much visibility).

D cell maglight mounted on the side of the console.



Rear bench removed and a mount fabricated for a single rear seat. Child carrier attached to the seat with a ridiculous amount of webbing. Complete overkill, and it's as safe as it gets in a jeep.



Since we have three big dogs, I built a deck for the rest of the open space. Using cardboard as a template, I cut 3/4" plywood to fit the contours of the jeep. Now we can ride with three people and three dogs inside the jeep. There is storage under the deck, and with the cargo box on top we can carry whatever we need to. In the pic I have the hatch covers in the deck pulled so you can see the access points to the storage below. I cut the carpet out of the storage bin, and removed the lid so there is mucho storage space there.



So that's it for the most part. As I make more changes I'll add them.

 

Finally got around to building my front bumper.

 

Hello everyone, I am new here and new to the JK though I have owned several Jeeps in the past. I love the expedition set ups that you guys have and I would like to slowly work in that direction. I purchased the Jeep used in September of 2014 it is a Silver 2 door 2012 COD MW3 Edition Rubicon.

Here is my starting point:

I want to slowly make additions to the Jeep and would like suggestions from you guys. First I would like to get proper length shocks for my lift (I am thinking Blistein 5100's or Old Man Emu). Next I want to add some armor. I am mainly interested in engine and transmission skids and maybe an evaporator skid (is this needed?).

Now storage, I need help here since this is a 2 door. I am hoping to do small weekend camping trips for now with my wife and six year old son. The long range, hope is a Gobi rack and maybe a roof top tent or an off road trailer but those options are several years out. For now we will be camping in a dome tent. I have a SmittyBilt hard top (added after the photos) and want opinions for mounting a basket type rack to it (what brands and models do you recommend?). Also I do not remove the top since I need to be able to lock it up. The other option that I am looking at is one of the basket type racks that mount to the spare tire carrier (I have the heavy duty AVE rear bumper with swing out tire carrier so it should handle a good bit of weight.

The advantages that I see to the basket racks that mount to the spare tire mount are lower cost, and the ability to easily remove it. If I install a roof top basket it will be a permanent install and effect gas mileage even as a daily driver.

I really like your set up. Do you have any more details on the rear seat that you used and the mount as well as the deck that you made? I have a 2012 2dr and we have a six year old son so your set up is exactly what we need for weekend wheeling and camping trips.

I really want a roof rack for camping, kayaking etc but don't really like how it looks on the soft top (all the time). So I'm looking for one that has a light bar up front that I can leave in place. Then mount the rest when I want to use it. I've looked all over the interweb and the RR Sherpa seems to be the closest thing. Anybody out there have what I'm talking about?

 

Have you seen the new Rugged Ridge Exo-Top? I'm kinda digging it, myself...sell the soft top to recoup some costs.

 

That does look pretty sweet. There's only 2 pics of the 2 door, but it has me interested. The only thing that worries me is trusting my ENTIRE top to RR. Jeep can't seem to get it right and they've been doing it for 70 years! Price will also factor in.

 

I've heard of a couple people taking the Gobi rack off over the winter months, or only putting it on when they are going out on a trip. The light bar stays in place up front, and looks kind of cool by itself. I am thinking about doing that with my JKU.
