2Dr Expedition Mods - lets see them!
Just completed 1350 miles of overlanding here in Washington State (did the WABDR twice, plus a little more) and the most practical "mods" done to my 2012 two door proved to be:
1. Good tires. In my case 33" Toyo Mud Terrains on 16" rims.
2. ARB fridge to keep my food & drinks cool in the 100+ degree temps! Very important!!!

Extremely dusty conditions fouled the air filter quickly, and a spare would have been GREAT.
Also, the CB radio allowed near-constant, good comms with all the other rigs in the group.
Other than that, a stock Jeep could have handled the route well. My other changes simply weren't necessary. Toss the camping gear and recovery gear in the Jeep, and go!
Regards, CW

Well, I added a 2" trailer hitch to my swing out tire carrier. I can now put my 50" x 20" cargo carrier above tire and have it swing out with tire carrier if I need quick access to rear area. Or, I can put it in trailer hitch mount if I do not need quick access. I, think i am going to get a smaller trailer hitch cargo carrier for the upper and use the 50' x 20" for bumper hitch. I also put in a Sears Diehard Gold AGM battery.

I guess that I'm not exactly sure that mine is an overland by definition, I would call it a hybrid I suppose?
It's a 2014 Willys Wheeler.
It's a mild build I guess, 3.5" Rock Krawler springs, 28" Fox Performance Series shocks, ProRock 44 front axle with RCV shafts, E-Locker and Synergy balls. I have engine/trans skid, EGR skid, fuel tank skid, and EVO rear shock relocation brackets that act as lower control arm skid. The front is lowers are bare, but the ProRock is heavy plate brackets unlike the stock sheet metal.
Synergy track bar up front going to a Synergy frame side track bar brace and Synergy Sector Shaft Brace.
Steering box ported for ram assist, but not on yet, setting on the shelf until a high steer flip.
Front tie rods and center link are the Ruff Stuff DIY 1-ton 1.5" OD x 0.25" wall DOM with 1-ton tie rod ends.
Rear is using a Teraflex track bar raise bracket.
Teraflex brake line drop brackets.
Ten Factory rear alloy shafts.
4.88 gears and factory LSD rear.
Dynabead in the tires.
Tires are STT Pro 37x13.5x18 on LRG 106 9x18 wheels.
Roof rack is a Rugged Ridge Sherpa from a JKU that I shortened to fit the JK.
Hand held CB with mag base antenna for when I need more range than trail use.
Trail jack
12K LB Smittybilt X2O Gen 2 Comp winch
Smittybilt SRC front bumper.
Body Armor rear bumper
I'm doing a trip this July from Pittsburgh to Ouray Co. in it with my buddy and my 10 year old son, so in that instance it will be an overland rig. Other times it will be a rock crawler at Rausch Creek in Pa. Like I said, a hybrid build. I just hope that the build is as reliable as I hope it to be! I tried to check off the boxes of what I thought was the weak spots under the front end. There is currently just under 12K miles on the Jeep.

Maybe I will swap it for a JKU and do a true overland build in a few years?
Id keep it though , Some day you might regret getting rid of something that was built right.
Things usually get cheaper quality as time goes on . Nice build though what ever you do with it.
I like 4 doors for the room it offers if the rear seat is removed. But Something about a 2 door That Screams JEEP The New Truck ought to be Interesting !
that would be a nice build for you !
btw really dig that roof rack . did you have to weld to fabricate it to fit ? First thing i noticed that i liked that was different than most i see. is the quality any good or subject to rust issues ?
