The only thing I don't like about a RTT is that then once your set up you cannot move your rig. Unless your one of the lucky ones who has an off road trailer. I plan on getting a Gobi rack and possibly a RTT. Then one day an off road trailer so I can move the RTT off of my Jeep.

You're absolutely correct about this - for me the really only negative I've found so far. It is only 10 minutes to totally pack it up and I've left my sleeping bags & pillows inside when I've folded it up for the day to make it quicker but it's still inconvenient. Otherwise, it's been a positive experience!

Do you have a canvas or nylon RTT. If you pack up each day I can see the canvas ones being a but of a problem if you had a heavy dew of rain ect.

Ya. I have one of those "hennesey hammocks" tent hammocks I use for solo backpacking, and usually have it in the jk when its topless & door less *just in case*

I absolutely f$%king LOVE this thread. Getting a 2013 JKU soon, been too long without a Jeep. Not a rock crawler guy, so this is EXACTLY the direction for me.

Mark D. - Your rig had me hooked from the very first page. I'm also newly retired AF and I would love to do this stuff (need room to bring the wife AND the dog though). You should have your own website on lessons learned, your jeep buildup, trip routes with maps, and showcase your pics. I'd subscribe for sure.

Thanks all for a great thread and lots of cool ideas. I know it kind of faded away, but I really like the "what do you need for a expedition vehicle" list.

Thanks again!

You can make one like I did and dream for the RTT some day! Still a work in progress!

Looks good those tires look awfully close to those fenders. Do they rub at all.

Here's an expedition modded Vette I just spotted in Anchorage.
