Expedition Modded Jeeps - Let's see 'em!!
I have a question about rear bumper/tire carriers and thought to ask it here. I am stuck between the aev with dual water reserves and the shrockworks full bumper. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
You can't go wrong with either, it is just what you prefer and want you plan on doing with your bumper.
I have the Shrockworks with all of the goodies. And the white four door JK with the white wheels you see in my videos has the AEV. Love my Shrockworks, but there are a couple nice things about the AEV: The tire carrier works with the door--not a separate action to open it. And there is a place to store a Pull-Pal (It's a lot bigger and heavier than one might think). Some might also add the water storage capability, but with all of the other weight back there, you're certainly getting pretty heavy. I know my friends with the white JKU have never used that feature. Of course, they don't have a Pull-Pal either, LOL. With the Shrockworks, you can carry classic jerry cans (more fuel than the AEV's Rotopax solution), and you have a trail rack (which I find fits a 120 Alu-Box and my 5-pound propane tank nicely). As mentioned, if you opt for Shrockworks, be prepared for a wait of months, not days or even weeks.
Just wish AEV would have a sale once in a while
Every once in a while over the past week or so someone has commented that the app can't post pics. I use the web browser instead of the resource hog app on my Android phone and haven't had any problem uploading pics. So, maybe just open the site up in Safari (or whatever, I know very little about Apple stuff) and upload the pic.
Check craigslist too. Sometimes you find some hidden gems. I just bought someone's like new 2013 Moab edition takeoffs (front, rear and skid plate, made be AEV) for $600 and they were about 4 months old. It's worth checking several times a day lol.
Both are good quality. I like shrockworks more and think they offer a little more for what I want (depart angles, storage, studdy, etc) and they are less common too which is nice to have something different. Both are pricey, but shrockworks has one major problem… it can take forever to get your bumper. To me it is worth it, but some get very annoyed with the wait. I also like the look of the shrocks more too.
As for the rear bumper, it's a question of personal preferences. I like less weight that far back, because of road & trail handling considerations.
