Very. Way easier to get at stuff. Do be aware that if you use the soft top, you'll have a bit more work to swap brackets for the rack and top.

Anyone use a headliner in their jeep to quite down roof rack noise? If so how effective was it?

Not quite a headliner, but I cut a foam mattress topper to fit between my Spiderweb Shade and the soft top. Work great. At 75 mph, my wife and I can carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice and the kids can listen to a movie on the strap-in DVD player without having to use headphones. For less than $20, it definitely was worth it. Only problem is it doesn't end the noise coming from the soft side windows. I have an idea for those, so we'll see how that works out. Sent via Jeep wave from my NSA-approved domestic espionage device

Yes, I do the same with my soft top. Was thinking of sound proofing my hard top to be even better than the soft top. It would make my wife happy.

I am running the AEV roof rack with my hardtop. I installed the Boom Mat Sound Deadening Headliner and it cut down wind and road noise down a lot. Very happy with the performance and looks (I also painted the inside of the hardtop black). It's pricy (especially the side window set), but worth the money. (I think Quadratec have it for $199 for the main kit).

Look up Hot Heads=really does work for me. Cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. And cuts down on noise also for the radio or talking on the phone when( you have too.) Very easy to install for front and rear.
