I hope I'm not too far out there on this question. Instead of carrying water has anyone installed a RO unit or some kind of filtration system?

Sorry I was actually wondering about the interior rack. I'm familiar with the Gobi. Use to have one on my 2dr.

Thanks,

RP

carrying a filter system is a good idea, unless you are in places like the SouthWest, where there might not be any water to filter

Lifestraw has a new family filter system. Heard great things about it. It's on my list when I can start doing expeditions for longer times.

I carry a small backpacking water filter from MSR. It's just to get me safe drinking water in an emergency. One things folks often overlook is that water for cooking, clean-up and showering need not be filtered or purified, as long is it's clean. I now carry three of the 2-1/2 gallon Aquatainers, and that's actually quite a bit of water if you're using it only for drinking, and not for cooking and showering. I also carry two (normally empty, but there in case I need them) MSR 8-liter dromedaries. The nice thing about them is they take up very little room when empty. So, I can only fill them up when I need the extra 4 gallons of water, and otherwise they aren't taking up space.

I read that question and was trying to figure out what interior rack you were seeing in the picture you linked to ...

By any chance did you mean mine?

If so, it is the Jeep JK Interior Rack from Adventure Trailer.

I think they would be nice to carry on a roof rack. One of the Nissan Xterras I was with a couple weeks ago in NM was carrying two much wider than normal jerry cans on his, and I think it would have been better with more short ones. They were very heavy to put up there (says the guy who carries his second spare on his roof rack, LOL).
