Expedition Modded Jeeps - Let's see 'em!!
I drove across the country on and off the t
Trans America trail for 2 weeks when I got out of the USMC in my JK. I didn't run into any problems in the sections k
I did... except deep snow in some of the mountain passes. There's two different folks who have sort of "pioneered" the trail. One guys name is Sam and he has a website where you can purchase the GPS tracks. The other guy GPSkevin is the source I used. His stuff is free. I just saved it, put it in a micro SD card and popped it in your standard Garmin nuvi.
The trail is decided into sections, the longest of which I believe is 160 miles. The sections are primarily off road but go from fuel source to fuel source so I didn't have to plan for an insanely long range. It was a great trip. I'd like to go back and do the rest of the parts I skipped ahead on (I skipped ahead because of time, or snow, I didn't experience any bike trails but can't promise there aren't some narrow spots. On his site he claims that the trail is suitable for jeeps etc)

I haven't been on the Nevada part, but reports are that a lot of it is single track. Looks like people have found alternate roads to take. Would be a great trip with a group of jeeps. I'm in if folks want to organize.
Been out of this thread a while but finally got the Ham rig finished!! Maybe I can get on with the roof rack soon now!
LOL! This is why I love the Yaesu FT-817ND. They're really quite tiny and the extra components tend to be made to be the same size so, yeah, that fits in nicely between the rear roll bar and the hardtop, all nicely tucked away. The position there allows me to pack full up still without causing damage to the ham rig.

This is my favorite thread on this forum, you guys are great. I wish I had the money and time to build a rig like some of you have and just travel. Your trailers are amazing and I would love to have one. Please keep the pictures coming for me :-)
I guess part of the trip challenge would be to time it right so that Rocky Mountain passes are open without too much snow yet the desert legs are dry yet not too hot. Kinda makes you appreciate what early pioneers faced.
Great pics! Looks like great time of year to be there.

I'm constantly amazed with what the early pioneers withstood, overcame, and accomplished. It's funny you should say that, I listened to an audio book of Lewis and Clark's journals while I drove haha. Very inspirational.
working on mine, this is what I have so far.
