Gobi for me as well. Cuts down on gas mileage, but all racks do.

Even if a rack could cut down on fuel mileage. I don't think I would have much help. Mine is horrible.

I did... except deep snow in some of the mountain passes. There's two different folks who have sort of "pioneered" the trail. One guys name is Sam and he has a website where you can purchase the GPS tracks. The other guy GPSkevin is the source I used. His stuff is free. I just saved it, put it in a micro SD card and popped it in your standard Garmin nuvi.
The trail is decided into sections, the longest of which I believe is 160 miles. The sections are primarily off road but go from fuel source to fuel source so I didn't have to plan for an insanely long range. It was a great trip. I'd like to go back and do the rest of the parts I skipped ahead on (I skipped ahead because of time, or snow, I didn't experience any bike trails but can't promise there aren't some narrow spots. On his site he claims that the trail is suitable for jeeps etc)
Where did you find GPSkevin? Do you have a link to his site by any chance?

Thanks in advance.

I saw this one on Expedition Portal that is located in Austin. May be worth looking at it even if you don't intend to spend that much to get an idea of what kind of condition the other one is in when you compare the two.

It's all relative. I'm lucky to get 11 MPG with the rack, the hemi, heavy axles, and at altitude. I get an extra 2mpg though without the rack.

Thanks for the link! Really helps me see that this one is a good deal. Hoping to see it tomorrow.

Low profile racks like the AEV or my personal favorite the bajarack UT will have less effect on milage than ones with higher profiles. I was looking at installing lights on top of my rack when I get it but im not going to. Only a couple of perimeter LEDs for lighting up campsites.
