I dont have a clue but Hildweller have little bit specialized him self in Jeep Wrangler lights and testing and such. I think he is the guy that have done most testing of different JK lights out there. I dont know if he is correct or not but he seems little bit to be a legend in JK lights according to others.

I do think that IPF lights are good for the money and better than stock. I think I have read that he recomend some other brand that makes H4 lights, dont remember what brand.

Hildweller writes a lot about Daniel Stern lighting, and maybe Hildweller thinks that Cibie H4 (Regulatory compliance: ECE (European E-Code); SAE M) are good? link here Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

He also states that Dually aint good on the A-pillar, I love mine

Anyway I think it is still forbidden to post links here

So You might google, headlight shootout hildweller

or hildweller + lights

We are luckier than You because in Europe we gets Hella H4 lights stock, but they are still weak and dangerous to drive with at night. Need extra light so I got Dually D2 LED lights that is forbidden here on the road

My stock lights, Hella H4

We also get a lever to adjust the light, up and down

The issue with an illegal headlight - such as IPF's - isn't the fact that they're not legal... it's that they're unsafe. Sure the stock headlights stuck (I did a 2000km road trip with them in my 07 with lots of night driving - so I know all about it). Yes they put out more light than the stock ones... but it's where they put that light. They do not have a clear cutoff at the top, and instead there's a lot of light going upwards. This will affect the driver in adverse conditions (fog, rain, snow) by putting more light where it shouldn't be, and bothering them... and it will affect every single driver driving towards those lights.

The issue with lights, is unlike almost every other mod we do, not only does it affect the driver of the JK - which is fine... it's their mod, and as with every mod, that's the risk they decided to take... it affects every single person driving towards the JK.

The sad thing is... is that not only are they illegal... they suck as a headlight.

/rant

As for the Hella's... I've used those (twice) and the Cibies that he touts as the best... and I prefer the Hella's. The Hella's actually are not bad at all. They still need a little extra umph provided by an aux light... but I've done a few road trips with just those, and they're pretty decent. And priced only slightly higher than the IPFs.

Thanks. I understand the issues. Which is why I wrote my response the way I did. If you do care that your lights meet the letter of the law, fine. But don't damn the IPFs sight unseen because you are totally wrong in your intimation. You might be surprised by how really good they are. And I don't say that because I get my kicks out of blinding other drivers. I do not so I don't. The IPFs are excellent for the price for the JKs.

Either you are part of off the grid rentals or you just got lucky getting a trailer with rims that match the ones on your Jeep. Looks good!

Howdy from Sweden

I have to show my vids again in perfect swedishenglish with my Hella H4 and Dually D2.

When I drive in the total darkness in Sweden the Hella H4 is very bad, and I feel scared. Luckily I have my dually D2 but it aint allowed here in sweden at the road, but I dont care in the forest.

They are at least 2 things I dont like about the Wrangler, and it is that the inbuilt navigation (NAV) and the light aint for offroading, it is for city driving in the city at day.

Aniway here are my video

I had the (IPF) first and they are better than stock. But still lacking in some areas of lighting, one a lot of light going up. Then went with the (CIBIE'S) quit a bit improvement over the IPF'S. For me they work great and for the price will not complain. Both Daniel and Hildweller know their stuff on lighting. Sure you can step up to the LED'S and HID'S but then you are talking a bit more money. Comes down to what kind of roads you travel on all the time.

Funny you said that, because we run the Rubicon trail a couple of times every Summer and we always finish the trip with a couple of days at Harvey's Casino/Hotel in Lake Tahoe. Parking at Harvey's is in a structure with very low clearance, and the only way to park rigs that are too tall is through the valet. It is always the highlight of our day showing the valets where the switch is for the fuel pump, how to buckle-up, giving them a tour of the rig, etc., all while we are covered in dirt and look like homeless people.

Thanks. Yes, the build thread link is below in my signature. Again, our rig is more of a hybrid, and we stole a lot of ideas from expedition style Jeeps - the rig can do really long hauls at speed. Above is a video of Beast pre-running this year's Baja 500, where we did over 100 miles in 1 day.
