I like the idea of a tablet mounted in the Jeep with this app. I'm thinking about buying a tablet just for this. Can anyone tell me will any tablet work or will I need a higher end unit to work as a dedicated GPS unit. I understand it will need to have built in GPS.
I believe most of the brand-name tablets (Acer, Toshiba, Samsung, etc) come with GPS nowadays.
I am using an Acer A100 running Honeycomb. Got this one at Best Buy for $250 or so. The 7in screen is perfect to hang on the Jeep or handheld use.
I like the Android tablets because they offer the most value for the money (not overpriced proprietary Apple stuff) and are fairly open for you to connect expansion memory cards, transfer files via Bluetooth and so on.
So, mine is not a dedicated unit. I use it daily for other stuff as well. The fact that I can exchange the memory cards let me optimize it for what I need.
