Well, after Toyota just got a BIG spanking for failing to report a safety risk, there's no way in HELL Chrysler was going to keep quiet on this... Can you even imagine what would happen if someone was in a fatal crash due to brake failure and Chrysler never announced it!? It wouldn't matter if this was the cause or not (it could have been from a botched brake repair) - the media would run wild with it and the sheep would follow en masse.. Headlines would reed "Chrysler Knew About Fatal Flaw"... Man, it'd be ugly... I would guess that if the Toyota issue never come up, this "news" wouldn't be so popular (popular nationally, that is - of course I understand why it's popular here)...

I haven't checked out mine yet but it does seem odd - like someone else posted earlier, I haven't heard of any brake failure at all from this... I'm hoping that it's a relatively minor issue (for the Jeeps, at least) and Chrysler is just doing the right thing...

Apparently it only affects Jeeps manufactured from May 15, 2006 through Aug. 9, 2009... I'm curious what the production/assembly change was after 8/9/09...

Maybe I'll use the excuse of my brakes failing to drive my Jeep through the dealers window if they don't fix my soft top correctly after visit #4.

If its just the bottom area of the fender liner rubbing cant I just take a dremel to it and call it a day?? Is there something special that the dealer is going to do??

Id rather not spend hours at the dealer for some BS fix and then have them try to sell me a bunch of crap.

precisely.... just make sure your brake line isnt already damaged.. or else they will have to replace it.
