Urban sprawl spreads like a cancer destroying the natural land while the inner cities decay and that decay eventually spreads outward. Farmland I used to hunt is now covered with houses and strip malls.

Just my two cents. End of rant.
Amen, brother. Amen.

I was shocked and pleased to see that so many Jeepers in this thread take the "whole view" of conservation. Environmentalists are often one-dimensional whack jobs. I once had stepchildren that spouted all manner of environazi propaganda they had shoved down their throats in school, but didn't think twice about tossing their cigarette butts or trash out a vehicle window. Their behavior was no different than "I invented the internet" boy and his mansion using as much energy as a small town, not to mention his jet trips to speaking engagements.

I'm far right in my political views, but I darned sure want my grandkids to have the same opportunities to hunt, bike, fish, wheel, walk, stargaze, camp, hike, harvest, or chill out that I've had. I recycle like nobody's business. I donate to The Nature Conservancy, American Farmland Trust, Heifer International, and Indiana Heritage Trust, to name a few. Our culture's warped view of zoning is chewing up undeveloped land at an alarming rate. Even with the "set aside" lands, we will soon be at the mercy of other countries for our food. -NOT a comfortable thought, if you ask me. I can think of no more wasteful use of fertile land, like the black gold that surrounds me, than turning it into a suburbanite yard, poisoned yearly with more chemicals per acre than even the most ignorant or irresponsible farmer. -and for what? To say his yard is greener than his neighbor's? Good God, some people need to get a life.....and a clue.

As for changing the lights in our homes, the future is NOT in fluorescents (which CAN be purchased mercury-free, by the way), but in LEDs.

Oh, the poll.
I agree that the two possible answers are too directive.

The military tested a hybrid Hummer years ago that was faster, quieter, more capable, and got better mileage. There is NOT a mutually exclusive choice between better mileage or better wheeling. In fact, an improved AWD/4WD drivetrain would have its secondary drive axle powered by electricity, hydraulics, or air.

I'm impressed that this thread has shown that we, as a group, are genuinely concerned about our environment, inspite of the fact that this was not what I was looking for...thank you.

I would and am leaving my jeep sort of stock. i have no plans to lift it as of yet but would like a winch and bumper. My stock rubi can get me pretty much anywhere I want to go with really good gas milage. People are always complaining about how terrible the milage is but not lifted i get 14+ depending on what I am doing. I can go anywhere my friend can with his 7 mpg or less truck. I spend alot of time in the back woods of Montana and use my jeep to get me back to places i previously were unable to. My friends truck is on 35's and can go some places mine stock rubi cannot but it usually costs so much in gas that we don't ever go to those places. Plus my 2 door can usually just drive around the obstacle.

Let's try to keep this relevant to the "JK Talk" section and stick to our Jeeps, their mileage and their environmental impact.

If you want to debate the existence of Global Warming, please take it to "Anything & Everything".

ROFLMAO at bunny huggers. hahaha. You've just made my day.

Anyway, my Jeep is 98% stock right now, but only because i got no money to spend on it. I personally don't see how a stock JK is better for environment then moded.

PS: Dustoff'68, please don't tell me you are one of those people that replies with "tread lightly" to every off road video/pic/post.

You guys are looking at this all wrong.....

There are more hybrid vehicles driving the streets than Jeeps, So we are just burning what they are saving...it all evens out....

I refuse to vote in this poll because there's an agenda behind it.
