Hello Mcfly Are you serious
Well yesterday I went to a dealership and wanted to get a ideal on what my jeep would be worth. I have:
2009 sahara unlim.
15,000 miles
w/ lift, 35s and gears
plus misc extras
so after they look at it and i see a truck i would be interested in the guy finally comes back with numbers.
He starts off showing me the discounts i would get on the new truck and at the bottom it says "TRADE 23,000" I laughed and told the guy thanks for wasting my time. Then he said what do you thinks its worth. I was like Ill meet you in the middle ill give you my jeep for 23000 and you take another 6 grand off the truck. needless to say im still driving my jeep.
How dumb do salesman think we are
has anyone else been offered a really lowball offer on their jeep

I paid 23,500 for my Sahara New with Auto / Hardtop in 2009, so I'd be pretty pleased to trade it in for $500 less than I bought it for a year and a half later.
Usually aftermarket mods aren't worth much for dealer trade-in. You're usually much better off selling it private party to another enthusiast, someone who appreciates the parts and work.
Dealers usually don't offer much of a premium for mods because in their eyes it is a lot of liability and other headaches to sell a vehicle like that. On top of the normal issues associated with any used vehicle, they have to worry about the parts and labor quality of the mods. If they do want to sell a modded ride, they'd much rather build a new one with a firm like DSI (affiliated with 4WP and 4WD) or in-house to eliminate many of the issues associated with a used, modded vehicle.
One more thing to think of when trading a vehicle in: with the paperwork done correctly, you save a bunch on sales tax since the traded value is taken off the new car price. In Texas, the savings from a 23000 trade in would be $1500-2000 depending on jurisdiction.
Just trying to present some of the "other side".
But $23,000 was a decent offer.

Never expect a fair deal when trading in a car/truck. The dealer has to make money on the trade in and the new vehicle. It's how he stays in business.
Modifying a JEEP doesn't increase resale or trade-in value...it decreases. Best bet would be to sell to a JEEP enthusiast and buy cash.

Hate to say it, but I would think that all of the non-Mopar mods are killing the resale value. Besides, with 2011 models on order, getting ready to start production in two weeks, yours is 2 years behind. $23k is a fair offer.
Had to reread the post. $23K sounds fair.
You should go in knowing what you're going to pay net.
When I bought our last infinity, they would not budge on the trade, but knocked $6K off the sticker. When I tried for more on the trade, they said they would not do as well on the new car price. With the $6K off the sticker, we paid a total of $2K less than expected. It's all smoke & mirrors. As long as you know what you ultimately want, it does not matter where they hide it.

Or you could swap it with some cheap take off wheel / tires and resell yours. If he would still give you the same value w/stock wheel/tires you just made another $1000+.
I thought I did my research. I looked at KBB and for prices for used jeeps in my area but I do know what i want to spend and i dont care how the numbers roll out Its the bottom line im looking at. Since I posted this the dealer has call me back and left me a voice mail to call him back. we will see what happens
I know all about it....they squeeze all the incentives onto your Trade-in and you are paying full MSRP...
I looked at trading my 04 Dodge Ram 3500 CTD and offered me $25K for trade-in and I thought wow decent trade-in. But they had $12.5K incentives during the time period on the 2009 Dodge Ram CTD's. So, I responded that you will take $12.5K off the new truck and give me $25K for my trade-in for a difference of $15K. Dealer salesman.....Nooooo, It will be $27.5K difference. Well, I did all the math and they were only going to give me $11K for my Truck...
They dumped the incentives on my Trade-in...Freakin bastards! Well, i walked and told the salesman I will keep my 5.9L Cummins it will outlast those 6.7L Cummins Turds!

That's what the brand new Jeeps sell for around here.
