To those who can remove the key when unlocked: Did you go through the key matching sequence?

I sure did! I expected fireworks or at least a solid click or something but I did encode it before riveting it in. Additionally I have tried other keys once it was locked (how I discovered the screw driver trick) and it appears to only unlock with the ignition key. If it (allowing key to be removed in unlock position) is a malfunction I will take it.

I just installed the MOPAR Hood Lock. It took about 10 minutes. I used the supplied giant pop rivets, but nuts and bolts can be used. There is access for the nuts inside the channel.

The key will not come out when the lock is in the unlocked position. This is not all bad, because you can unlock, open the hood, relock, and remove the key. The hood will still latch closed when the lock is in the locked position.

Now the bad part: The hood can be opened with a skinny screwdriver. Just raise the hood as far as the safety latch will allow, (it's not far enough for my finger), stick the screwdriver under the hood, and slide it to the driver's side to move the safety latch.
I can install a little sheet metal guard to prevent this. For the price of the lock, it should have come with a guard. I'll post some pics when the guard is installed.

This is what mine does...I was mistaken before when I said mine would release the key when unlocked.

I like the idea of this lock and the fact it will help stop the hood lift, but a screwdriver can work around it????

I've had a mopar lock, and i could open the hood with no problem... You just need to shift the hood side to side and it'll open... mopar lock is a POS! I've tryed to adjust it and broke it, some cheap alloy parts inside...

Sorry, but, the answer is yes.
I haven't gotten around to installing a little plate to block access.

I keep looking at my locks on my Samsonite hard side suitcase and think that some engineer could come up with something that adapts to the hood of the Jeep. I don't have the skills. I wish Tuffy or someone with a couple of smart people could come up with something in three years.

Can anyone explain how the lock gets "keyed" to your ignition? Do the tumblers fall down the first time you insert your key, or is it more complicated? Thanks in advance.
