Default was i wrong?

Saturday night having some drinks with the wife and friends at a bar on St. Pete Beach and i see a nice JK with the top down pull up into the parking lot. Looking at it closer I see that that the soft top is all jacked up. I put my drink down and walked out and asked the guy if he had a minute for me to show him the proper way to put his soft top down. He was actually really cool and said sure. Dude didn't even have the windows out, just had everything smashed into the trunk with the arms sticking straight up.
After the lesson he was thankful and the JK was saved from any further damage.
Did I do the right thing or should I just minded my own business?

I think this would be one of those situations where how you acted would make all the difference. If you were pompous and acted like you knew everything, then yea it could/would be taken the wrong way, however, if you were just offering a helping hand, I would have been totally grateful!

If the guy was receptive to your assistance you can't go wrong.

Always lend a hand to a fellow jeeper. If they don't want the help/advice, it's thier loss.

Seems to me his dealership (if at least it was new) was lacking in customer service.

When I bought mine, they spent a good 30 minutes - with a checklist - showing me all the little details.

way to go, keep it up!

When I first got my JK, the dealership didn't show me $hit. I had to research and figure it out. There's pretty good explanations in the... wait for it... OWNERS MANUAL, which the guy mentioned in the post obviously never took the time to read to learn how to do it right.

Naw, it's cool. I'm sure he appreciated it. I would if it was me. I look to more experienced Jeepers for common advice. I put a person's top up once because it was about to rain. Mind you, it wasn't a stranger. It's someone I know that I was stopping to visit. Her Jeep was parked on the street and her husband appreciated the gesture. He also knew that I knew what I was doing.
PS - Putting that 2010 soft top up was a breeze. Better than my '09 top!
