My plans are when I have the money for an engine swap (if by then they dont have a good one in the wrangler yet) is to put a Ford Eco Boost engine in it. Tons of HP and Torque at a low RPM range. It'll just be expensive and cost a lot in work, but hopefully itll be worth it.a little specs for you as to why I would want to do it.
Ford 3.5L V6 Ecoboost
* Horespower - 365 @ 5000
*Torque (lb.-ft. @rpm - 420 @ 2500
Jeep 3.8-Liter V6
*Horsepower - 202 @ 5200 rpm
*Torque - 237 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
Jeep 2.5 CRD
*Horsepower - 140 @ 4000
*Torque - 253 @ 2000
Dodge 5.7-liter HEMI V8 MDS dual Variable Valve Timing
*Horespower - 390 @ 5900
*Torque - 407 @ 4000

That Ford EcoBoost idea doesn't sound too bad ... I hear Ford is selling more F150's now with a V6 than with a V8, thanks to that engine.
Now I don't want to sound like I know better, but in Europe the diesel engine has recently been changed and these are the (new) specs:
2.8 CRD with 2,776 cc: 147 kW or 200 hp @ 3.600 rpm
Torque 460 Nm (which is 339 lb/ft) between 1.600 - 2.600 rpm
Available with a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual. With the manual, a fuel saving stop & start system is included. I know... we aren't getting that engine in the US.

I'd be MORE than happy with that diesel here in the US. I just dont see why Jeep finds it so hard to put a decent engine in these things. They would probably sell more than they already do. The Wrangler is there number 1 seller and they spend more time on the Compass, Patriot and Liberty. It wouldnt take much to make the Wrangler one of the best selling vehicles on the road.

My two cents, if anyone cares: My JK is the first vehicle I have ever owned that is not a Ford. First car: '68 Bronco, Most recent car: '98 F150. I bought my F150 with 8 miles on it, now has 150k and I'm getting ready to give it to my son as his first vehicle.
I never - truly NEVER - had it in the dealership for warranty work. Replaced the tranny at about 110k and the heater core before that. That's it. My husband and I always had a Jeep as a 3rd vehicle (also an awesome '42 Ford GPW!) so I decided on the JK when I was ready for a new truck. I love it, don't get me wrong, but it has been in the dealership for lots of small pain-in-the-*#@ things in less than 28k miles. The Jeep is great, but it's no Ford.

Chrysler knows they make a junk product with the Wrangler. No secret. Just impressed so many people buy one as a daily driver. Wranglers are superior to almost anything else as a second vehicle. Awful as a daily driver or something you travel in. Horrible awful torture. I shake my head when people own one as their sole vehicle.
