Default Prevent hitting deer ?

Does anybody know if these "Deer Whistles" work? our insurance company gave it to us, saying that it scares the deer away before it gets near you, many deer around here, and a few close calls but i'm not sure

I've never had one, so can't say from personal experience, but I've known people who did have them that hit/got hit by a deer despite having them.

If it helps with the insurance premiums I say install it

Nothing is 100%, but I can speak from experience as we run them on everything. whenever we see a deer on the roadside, they always freeze and perk their heads and ears up. I think they work well.

If the deer jumps out in the road and the lights hit their eyes, they will not move. It happens out here on a regular basis.

As Yamaha90 says, get that front bumper buffed up and buy a big freezer. I know old timers around here laugh at folks who use these, but what do they know? I had a Subaru with them on and it sure pissed off all the local dogs. I more trust bright lights and driving slow, but if those hairy locusts are going to jump out in front of you, I don't think an act of God will stop them. My buddy is a deer magnet. I actually saw one run a cross the road and run into the side of his car while he was stopped. They're probably not as effective as the ads say, but if they work even once they're worth the $9.95. Deer damage is expensive and those never have insurance.

I think the thing with most of those warning whistles is speed. If you go slow they are not loud enough to do the job. I have used them for years and by the time I see the dear they are always running the other way. From experience if you go under 40 mph you may as well not have them.

I don't know the exact particulars about the dear whistle but a motorcycle course instructor was talking about how they won't work on a bike because they have to e a certain distance from each other. The further apart the better. Don't know how true it is but it's something I heard from a MVC certified driving instructor.

I live in central Wisconsin and general consensus it that they don't work in any way, but we've got almost as many deer as people. If you think they may help leave them on they won't hurt but don't in any way let them give you a false sense of security. Keep your eyes open and drive slow during the rut cause nothing will slow them down then. Well accept a nicely place bow shot that is. THWACK!!!!!
