it didn't cost me anything, it was free came with some papers in the mail i think, it had a little adhesive pad on the bottom so i figured it couldn't hurt anything, as far as it working i don't know, many mixed reviews on it and i drive about 40-60 on our roads so it should work, don't get me wrong i'm not dependant on the thing i always keep my eyes open and am aware

I think the general concensus is that if you're goin under 40, you oughtta be able to stop fairly quickly.

I was told once by a Forest Ranger that deer cross a road and suddenly see 2 big eyes in the dark (headlights). They fear for their safety. The deer don't know what is in front of them so they retrace their steps and return across the road to the safety they know was behind them. I personally don't think the Deer Whistles do all that much (if anything) to alert the deer. They have a very acute sense of hearing and I believe they are more than capable of hearing the engine of a vehicle coming down the road from a long distance away. If you stand quietly on a dark night and listen, you can hear cars a long distance away. Deer can hear much better than humans so I don't think any vehicle will sneak up on them. We lived in Wisconsin years ago and I know first hand about the large deer population there. No one thought the Deer Whistles worked but they used them anyway "just in case". Meanwhile deer were hit every night. Do they work? IMHO, yes, for the factory that sells them and count your money. Hope this doesn't get anyone angry at me. If you think they are a good idea, then by all means use them "just in case".

Your forrest ranger was so full of crap his eyes were brown. Deer instinctively freeze when hit by light. That's why people get put IN JAIL for "shining" deer at night. Put the spotlight on um...they freeze and you shoot the SHIT outta them. It's illegal as all HELL. I've lived in deer country all my life. They will stand in the road until you RUN their stupid asses over if they are blinded by your headlights. That forrest ranger needs to go work at Burger King or somethin. The deer whistles are to make damn SURE they hear you comin LONG before you get there so they will NOT be in the road to get blinded by headlights. I'll put it to you like this: Geico Insurance company gives DISCOUNTS if you have them on your car. Trust me when I say if an insurance company gives you a discount for somethin, IT WORKS.

I wouldn't worry about deer. If you look at my posts you'll see where I hit one. Now I'm looking to hit more.

I know what you are saying but from my experience your mindset is exactly why they don't work for alot of people. I live in southwestern PA and I live out in the country. On any given day I can go behind my house and shine a light in the field and see ten + pairs of eyes. During Rut I usually see atleast one a day to several a day on my way to and from work. Since I have been using the whistles the dear are always running away from the road when I see them.

To more or less confirm the speed theory the only times I actually had them still in the road are the times I was stuck behind someone going under 35 MPH.

There is no way they would put them on at the factory. That would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you would hit a dear with you car the first thing everyone would do is go after the car manufacturer. and as I said if you do not drive fast enough they are not effective.

Make sure that you don't install them backwards. They'll attract the deer. LOL

Where the heck are the Mythbusters when we need them. I'll volunteer my Jeep if Kari is the one working on this question ...
