Default Think before you sell your JK/JKU

So about 6 months ago, I'd had about enough of the 3.8L V6 and convinced myself that I needed a HEMI. I was looking at SRT8 Grand Cherokees, and Grand Cherokees with the 5.7L HEMI due to lower price. I ended up trading in my 2010 JKU sport with about 5-6K in mods for a 2006 GC Overland 5.7L HEMI. At first I enjoyed it. Having all the little bells and whistles such as heated seats, navigation, and power locks/windows was a welcomed change. The more time has passed, the more I've regretted my decision. I absolutely LOVED everything about my Wrangler, except for the lack of power (stock gears, 35's, and no re-gear). I love that it was unique, I love that it was easily-noticeable, and of course I loved modifying it/thinking about what mods to do next. The only thing I truly love about my current GC is the amount of power it has, it isn't lacking for power AT ALL. Unfortunately, everything else really doesn't matter to me. I'm a 25 year-old, single male, and the Wrangler is just so much more fitting for me. I've been lurking these forums since I sold my Jeep, and checking Craigslist/Auto Trader for good deals. A few weeks ago, I found a 2012 JKU sport (power windows/locks and a hard top) in beige, which is one of my favorite colors on the JKU. The asking price wasn't bad either, so I figured we could go crunch some numbers and maybe, just maybe, I could take that Wrangler home with me. As luck would have it, I'm way too upside down on my current loan to even come close to breaking even (about 10 grand off, thanks new Jeep Cherokee for making my book value go down the drain). All in all, huge mistake getting rid of my Wrangler. I've upped my monthly payments on my GC quite a bit in order to knock the principle down and hopefully be able to sell it in a year or two without taking too much of a hit financially. I will be back in a Wrangler with the 3.6L Pentastar, just not as soon as I'd like. Think before you sell your Wrangler!

On the brighter side, the new wrangler will be out by then and you will have an even greater choice of options to decide on.

Shoulda just regeared. One of the most overlooked mods.
It is one of the best things you can do for a jeep with bigger tires.

I too was lured away from my '06 TJ by the bells and whistles in an '11 GC. I'm sure for some it works, and the nice feeling of leather and touch-screen nav sticks, but for me it did not. Happy to report that a month ago (after much searching) I found the right '13 JK and I'm back with no roof, no doors and much sunshine.

I had always planned on throwing in some 5.13's and eventually a RIPP supercharger, but unfortunately lack of funds wouldn't allow it :/

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that's fallen for it! I absolutely cannot wait to be back in a JK.

I also made this mistake once. I had a 2010 Jk in Deep Water Blue, loved the way it looked but was worried about the 3.8L down the road seeing as it was already going through oil. I traded it in for a BMW 335i, it was nice and comfortable in the winter, but as soon as the spring hit I def regretted trading in my JK. I now have a 2013 Rubi and love it. Def took a finical hit, but luckily was still able to get out from under the bmw without getting it to upsidown. I have realized after that I traded my last jeep, having a wrangler was a lot more than just what I drove, it was my hobby and I enjoyed so much about it. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be back in a Wrangler soon

It's a seasonal thing for me.

We have 20 degrees winter and 100 degrees summers. I have noticed a real pattern in how I feel about my JK. Starting in the late Fall I begin to think about selling it. Through the Winter I am Definitely selling it. When Spring comes I give her a nice bath, fresh oil change, remove the top and doors, and only pull her out of the garage on sunny days. By then I love my Jeep so much, makes me wanna punch my grand-momma right in the mouth.
