Speedometer accuracy is not one of the items on the inspection checklist I would imagine.

Also, If the pictures in your photo album are representative of your tires and wheels at the time of the ticket, then I cannot imagine tire coverage is the issue.

Those are my thoughts anyway.
Exploring my thoughts a bit more. I see you have a 2007 X model. If you started with stock tires in the 255/75R16 size and stepped up to the 285/75R16 size, you'd impact you speedo around 6-8%. At highway speeds that could mean you were driving 75-76 mph and while showing 70 mph if you speedometer was not corrected. If your speedo showed more than 70 mph, then the problem would be even worse.

I noticed that BackinBlack07 didn't deny he was speeding, he's just questioning the tire warning.

You make a good point kapt. What the OP doesn't say is just as important as what the OP does say.

I do not know what he meant by a improper tires, maybe he does not like the BFG brand? I am just across the broder from you in SC and go into Charlotte alot. My daughter just got a warning for the bracket that goes around the lic. plate. Nothing was obstructed by it, but she was told to remove it.

In many states you have to have coverage down to the mid line/center of the tire. Even stock the jeep probably barely makes it. With bigger tires and especially a lift you will need mud flaps to get coverage.

That's in my state for sure. I was inspected yesterday and luckily the guy was a jeeper a let me slide this year but told me to have them next year.
