Yea, wasn't denying the speeding part. Got caught. Think the speedo was saying somewhere around 75. Any other thoughts? Do I actually need to fix the speedo or could I just get someone to sign off?

Well, here is the problem. Your speedometer is off, and getting someone to sign off on the warning won't solve the problem. You'll still be at risk of getting speeding tickets without correcting the speedometer. There are programmers that can correct the problem (Superchip, AEV Procal, etc.) Once you get the sign off taken care of, I really think you should correct the speedometer.

Alternatively you can figure out your error and then just compensate by driving that much slower. That is cheaper, but more of a hassle, in my opinion.

Cheers!

On a side note you could call their office and ask what improper tire means and then go from there instead of playing the guessing game. I ran my tj for 2 years with my tires sticking out and never had any issues beyond my speedo was off so I don't know that was around raleigh

I hope you figure this all out and it doesn't end up being to big of a pain in the ass

As for the speedo, use a GPS to compare your speed, the GPS unit will show your speed.

If you don't have one, borrow from a friend and check it out.

I don't think it would be coverage laws. My cousins live in Raleigh and their trucks are monsters and they have no flares at all. No problems.

Use a GPS and make a mental note of how many MPH you are off by. I used a GPS to calculate my superchips tire height.

Jeep says 60, but GPS says 59.5... close enough.

For the lack of a GPS you can always use a highway mile marker (assuming those exist in NC) on a flat, straight stretch of road and a stop watch. If you drive 60 mph, then it should take you exactly 60 seconds to drive one mile. If you are traveling faster (as you should be) then it will take less than 60 seconds to travel one mile. Take the percent difference between your time and and the target (60 seconds) and you'll have your error.

Or if you have a smart phone they have free apps that give you your speed and NC does have mile markers

I would try to contact the officer or courts and verify what the "improper Tire" ticket was for.

If he truly gave you a ticket for tire size throwing your speedo off, he apparently expects you to put on the stock size to fix it? If you use a Pro-Cal or Superchip to adjust it, how will you demonstrate it is now accurate?

But if it was for tire coverage then thats a whole different issue to deal with.

Don't waste your time until you find out exactly what the ticket meant.
