Why the 2 door?
I have taken the time to read all of the replies here - I like to familiarize myself with threads before I jump into them
I got mine early in the game - delivered 1/9/07...yep! Only a 3 week shopping/researching/buying/waiting process, too. I had considered a 4door, because a lot of times I do pack out my Jeep with friends (was 19 when I bought it) but I stuck to the 2door MAINLY because of wanting to stay 'old school'. Wranlgers have always been 2doors, and I wanted mine to reflect that.
Now, being that I was 19 and hadn't been planning to buy a NEW vehicle (I didn't lease it, either), the JKU X was appx. $2000 more...so it was price, too, but price consideration came AFTER I decided to go along the 'classic styling' lines of the 2door.
Alright, what else? Well, I do find my 2door to me more agile, maneuverable, and readily handles more tight and winding trails because of the shorter stance...it fits almost anywhere, streets OR trails! I think the 2doors look beefier when lifted compared to an Unlimited with the same lift/tire combination, because the 2door has more of that 'tonka truck' or 'toy' persona when it's jacked up! I feel it takes more to make a JKU look as beefy or toy-like. But these are opinions of mine that have come up well AFTER I made my purchase!
As for the 4door being 'less' of a JEEP, I don't like those arguments. I like the JKUs, really I do. But for me I didn't want it. I wouldn't rule out getting one, but I wouldn't GIVE UP my 2door to do it! As for less capable, I wouldn't use 'capable' as the word. There's not too many areas where that would matter. A Jeep is a Jeep, I don't care what you say. I have my 2door, you can have your 4door. Just wave to me if I wave to you! LOL
As for questions asked in post 1 of this thread in regards to towing, snow, and 'should Jeeps stay 2door because they always were?'...
-Towing - if I wanted to tow I'd borrow a truck
-Snow - you haven't ridden with me...I'm an animal in the snow!
-introducing the 4door was an AWESOME move by Chrysler. I have my degree in business management, and I side with them - for more share of the pie, and to increase market breadth, it MAKES SENSE AND WAS A HOME RUN MOVE!! Chrysler doesn't care if there are soccer moms driving stock JKUs around that don't wave! It BLEW UP the Wrangler model AGAIN! That's what counts. KUDOS CHRYSLER!
And there you have it, the short version of my opinion and reasoning! HAHA...

It is each individual's decision of whether to get a 2 door or 4 door. The last time I looked at the grill on my 4 door, it said Jeep. I don't particularly like being universally referred to as a "soccer mom", I am not a female and don't call me a "soccer dad", because I hate soccer. The Jeep has grown from the small Jeep of WWII, through different upgrades until it has arrived to date. In 20 years, Jeep owners are still going to be arguing over who has the real Jeep. We will probably be hearing 4 door owners griping about the next generation not being real Jeeps. Maybe we need to start marching and demanding respect from the 2 door Jeepers. Our government might eventually get involved and put an end to this 2nd rate treatment. We may be different on the outside, but we are very similar beneath the sheet metal and plastic. We have what others would probably love to have. When we see each other, both 2 door and 4 door, just smille and wave.

After having a YJ and a TJ, I bought an '07 JK 4-dr. I had it for four years, and recently sold it. I bought a new JK--this time a 2-dr. I actually like the 2-dr. better. It has more power, is more fun to drive, and I think it looks better. I also like the shorter wheelbase off-road. I don't need seating for four--in fact I removed the rear seat right away from both my 4-dr. and 2-dr. The only advantages that the 4-dr. had (for me anyway) were greater towing capacity, I could sleep in the back of it, and I could haul my bicycles in the back of it.
Nice! Now that I think about it, I'm doing a lot less hauling friends around than when I had a big Tahoe. Also, my wife has a Vovlo XC90 so for most road trips or running around town it is more comfortable than a 2 door or 4 door jeep. However, it will never be as fun!
2 door or 4 door, you can't go wrong either way. My 2 door climbed a trail that a 4 door could not, but it had nothing to do with the number of doors and everything to do with his street tires and my stock rubi tires.

for me,, a 4 door is too long,, it wont fit in most trails here in the midwest,,
just like full size trucks are too long,, the H1 hummer is way too big,, the 2 door is perfect for where i go off roading,,,
the Ozark mtns are ideal for a 2 door JK,, ive owned 5 so far and saving up for my 6th,,my father use to own a '76 ford 150,, we got it caught too many times with the turn radius not being short enough for the trails....
therefore,,only in a 2 door....

For me, aside from the room, the 2 doors look simply awful to me... there HAS to be others out there like me... they just look unbalanced and makes me
for the owner when I see one... that's just me... I don't get it either... its like a no-brainer for a 4 door just on looks, let alone it's expanded function... I NEVER EVER would have bought one if they still made only 2 doors...
