Why all the autos?
I drove a 6 speed 350z with a stiff racing clutch for 4 years of stop and go endless traffic. Driving my auto jeep is a dream. I agree the experience is totally different, I would never buy a sports car that was an automatic however with the jeep I do not see too much of an advantage. There are a few times I wish i still had a manual however those are outweighed by the many times I am stuck in traffic.

I had to get an auto so the wife can drive it. Me getting an auto was the only way she'd agree to me getting the JK! She seems to have a mental block when it comes to driving a manual, I tried to teach her and it did NOT go well!!!
All of my sports cars have been manuals, and I think they make sense for performance driving where an auto would likely shift when it shouldn't. Think mid corner, near the limit of adhesion when you want to hold a gear. Of course, the traditional stick-shift and clutch pedals are going away among the high end exotics and supercars in favor of sequential auto gear boxes and computerized clutches. This same technology has trickled down into normal sports cars and will probably eventually kill the third pedal altogether.
I've never understood why anyone wants a manual in a utility or off-road vehicle like a Jeep. It seems you get all of the drawbacks and few benefits. Every time I wheel with a stick driver, he's constantly stalling the thing and having to restart, usually in the middle of an obstacle. An auto just seems to be smoother in my experience and easier to handle. You also get a much easier commute for those who daily drive their Jeeps.
