But at least it is in my Wrangler...
Exactly, I also own a high hp manual car and it is miserable when you get stuck in traffic for an hour on the 495 spur. As a fun DD, my main requirement was that it had to be auto.

Of all the cars that Ive owned only one has been an auto. Everyone has their own reasons for choosing stick vs. auto. I personally enjoy rowing my own gears. I think everyone SHOULD at least know how to drive stick...beyond that to each their own. I feel I am lucky enough to have a wife whose only stipulation upon buying a new jeep was that it had to be a manual. My DD is also manual and my job requires me to drive alot. The clutch is fairly heavy(especially compared to the jeep...it feels like the clutch pedal in the jeep isnt even connected to anything it is SO light) but I enjoy driving my Saabaru so much I dont even really notice. Anyway...I also fear the death of the manuals and I will always recommend that people buy a stick over an auto but I wont damn anyone for buying an auto.

Oh and I didnt read through the whole thread so I dont know if it was addressed but I did see a post stating that F1 cars where autos...that is partially true...they are semi automatic gear boxes but the driver still has to use a clutch from a stand still(from starting grid and pits)

It wasn't easy finding a manual transmission with all the options I wanted. That said, the manual transmission was the only "must have" on my list. I wouldn't change it!

I had to get an auto so my wife could drive it. That being said, this is my first auto and for me a manual didn't make sense.

Might as well add my to this thread.
Iv got a four dr and auto for several reasons.
Main one being is after knee operations, it makes sense.
Its also a DD and the DW can also drive it when exploring.
Every one had a choice when they bought their respective Jeeps
and IMHO the choice is up to the individual as to what tranny
was chosen.

Im not so sure about that. More automatics are made than manuals which in turn makes automatics easier to come by. Maybe Im wrong and the whole supply/demand thing doesnt apply but Im pretty sure a manual would hold its value better.

I love Manual Jeeps! My dad had a TJ manual and I always loved to drive it over my Automatic TJ. The problem is that here in north jersey you can't go anywhere without hitting a ridiculous amount of traffic. I will have an automatic as long as I live in north Jersey. If I ever get out of here, you can bet your ass I will be switching to Manual . I don't mind my automatic cause I love my JK

The average person has no idea how to drive a manual, everyone can drive an automatic. More potential buyers.
