North East (new Jersey) Mini Expedition - Need locations
So i have an idea that i want to make happen. I want to plan a mini expedition in the north east. The plan is to wheel 1/2 day friday out to camp 1, setup camp, then wheel 1/2 saturday out to camp 2, set up camp, then wheel off the trail Sunday and head home. the problem is i dont know where i could do this. I live in New Jersey and was hoping to find something not too far away (mximum of 4 hours). Does anyone know any places this could happen?
While I totally dig your idea and would LOVE to make it happen, the only place that is BIG and LEGAL around our neck of the woods(and it's really not around our neck, its give or take 2 hours) is only really Rausch Creek. I mean, there are other places outside of 4 hours, but either not all that great, not legal, and just not worth a "weekend" trip-type expedition....
Wharton
Stokes
Stagg Hill
All in jersey, but some "question" on if they are "legal". Also that Wharton is a water pit/mud paradise for all those type of wheelers. Stagg definitely has some tough stuff from what I've been told. Havent been up there since all my upgrades, etc. However, out of my choices (besides Rausch cause it kicks ass), would be Stagg Hill. Don't really like mud, and fireroads don't cut it for me at all.... I need challanges....

thanks for the ideas. Ive been to Rausch a few times already. Not sure if you could really camp along the way. I know they let you camp for free in the parking area. Not really what i had in mind. i was hoping to avoid a loop trip if possible too. I know I know, i'm asking for too much now. There has to be something like this in the north east.

Rausch trips are always fun though with the right group! Also can't beat having a nice bed to sleep in at night ON TOP of grilling and boozing out back in the grass, just like camping! haha
