DIY: The Jeep Wave.
My first post ever, even after owning a bajilion Jeeps! I just bought a new JKU, and told my little kids that it is only good etiquette and manners to wave at other Jeeps. So, the kids do it and guess what? No love at all. It makes me sad. I had a heavily modded FSJ last and got waves, more than I would've ever thought. Now I'm in a stock Sport that will likely remain stock until I get a raise or win the lottery and I get nothing. Will I wheel it? Heck to the yes! Will my children be educated to the full extent of my knowledge of all things Jeep and the glory and responsibility that accompanies such knowledge? Giddyup. Will the guy down the street w/the TJ that looks like it went through Pep Boys w/a crap magnet on it ever wave? Doubtful. Oh well, it's the cross the Unlimited owners (and their kids) bear.
(As posted in another thread, earlier today.)
Hey we have some wave issues over here too.
Some do, but most don't. I pulled up on another JK
at a stop light a couple of days ago.... I looked over
and waved to the occupants. the kids in the back,
waved back and the "Mom" in the driver's seat turned
around and scolded the kids for waving at a stranger...
(I was really bent), but then "WE" got "OUR" revenge.
The little boy in the back, spoke up and said," But MOM,
It's a JEEP THING." the Mom turned to me, smiled, and
made a half-hearted wave to satisfy her son's wishes.
Everyday, there are folks out there who have no idea
that when they buy a Jeep, they are buying an icon.
And there are certain responsibilities that need to be
followed if They are to share this "Way-of-Life" with
the rest of Us,(who know about such things.)
I said thank You to the Mom and told the kid that
someday He'll be driving a JEEP and be waving to
all the other Jeeps out there.
It's Our Job to Teach these "NEW" owners what it
means to be a JEEP Owner.

My first set of wheels was an '83 CJ-7 (same vintage as myself) and always had my eye out for other J's to wave at.
Lost the J to my brother when I went off to school.
Now I have a 2013 UL and my faith in humanity is restored when I get waved back at!
Thank you all for Jeeping, and waving! keep it up.

I have to be honest, and it saddens me to say so, but I think the Jeep wave is dead. I've had a 97 wrangler and a 05 wrangler and I gave and received waves more times in one drive than I can even count. I took a few years off from driving a Jeep (attempted to grow up and drive an "adult" car as per the girlfriends request, didn't last long before I was back in the Jeep saddle.) Anyways I recently purchased a 2012 wrangler, which I love, but NOBODY WAVES BACK! I wave to older Jeeps (TJ/YJ) but I think they hate us. Which sucks because I love TJ's. And honestly, don't flame me, I think that the JK has become so mainstream that any old yuppie can drive one, people that have no idea that there is even such a thing as a jeep wave and are to busy shopping at pottery barn and drinking Starbucks to even notice a wave. Jeep drivers used to be a tight knit group of like minded individuals because it took a special, very specific type of person to love the wrangler, bumpy loud ride and all. I just feel the JK, while it surely is the best wrangler yet, is too good. Too good as in just a good overall "car" that anyone can drive, we are no longer so tight knit and I miss it. Even my girlfriend likes me new jeep and that's the biggest insult I can give it =-( RIP Jeep Wave.
i will always wave to another jeep its their choice if they dont want to participate in our tradition

I waved to six wranglers my last two miles before home yesterday everyone waved back. I think it all depends upon where you are while driving. I even get waves back when I accidentally do it in my modded XJ.
