ESP Kill Switch Writeup
I still think the system is very beneficial on the road. I really don't see any reason to not have it on when traveling at highway speeds on a main road. About the only thing I don't like of the system (even on the road) is the ABS... I have never like that crap.
This mod looks awesome! I'll be trying it this weekend. But I also agree the esp is a pretty good system for winter driving conditions, I was late for work one morning cruising at about 140 kmh (90 mph) in the snow and hit a 3 foot hard packed drift I thought I was done for but the esp kicked on and straightend the jeep out just before it was ditch bound.

Can anyone explain why exactly cutting this random purple wire located next to the ebrake kills the ESP? Its fully disables the the traction control, I get that. But why is it located under the center console next to the ebrake? Is that some sort of sensor the wires are running into in the pic? When the connection with it is interrupted does the whole system just go into a fault and disable?
Not sure but I think that black box next to the ebrake might have an accelerometer in it. The same device that tells your phone wich way it is facing. Might also be the thing that triggers the airbag. Just my theory.

Yeah, basically the black box down there is what tells the system if the Jeep is swaying, rolling, leaning etc.
I have a 2007 4dr and did this mod. Except I didn't make my cut back there. I pulled the entire center console out of the JK. (I was doing some other work too) I made my cut from the wires that are bunched up and ziptied under the dash on the driver's side. I drilled a hole right next to the gear shifter and mounted my switch right there. I like it there because it is out of the way and easy to get to, plus I don't need to worry about bumping it on accident. It's a very easy mod and worth the few minutes it takes to do it. When I am out playing in the hills it is great to have that stuff turned off, but like others said, it is awesome for when you are driving in the snow or on icy roads. As far as that guy saying the ESP kept him from losing it in the snow, I believe him because I have experienced the exact situation and the ESP DID help keep my Jeep on the road. I also had to drive up a hill one morning to get home from work. (I live on top of a small mesa and the road was pretty much solid ice except for a few clear patches.) There was a tractor trailer that got stuck on the hill because it was too icy. I dealt with the ESP light freaking out and slowly made it right up that hill without much trouble at all.
