Grill Mod
Thanks - I don't think that anybody should be put down for ANY mod - if THEY like what they did, then it's all that matters - I myself did the EXACT same mod, on my '07 grille, and it held up great! It was one of my first Mods and yes, I was just as happy about it - I have learned a lot from this site, and have gotten some super ideas like, drilling the side mirrors to stop the drippy leaks. If SOBERBYKR , was made to feel like his Mod, maybe was not "worthy", because of the way that someone else may have felt about it, he may never post another cool mod -- I think that we should encourage everybody to share what they have done, no matter how big or small - let's not forget that, it not only takes time to take the pictures during the Mod, but to post for everybody to see with the pictures,,,with comments, so others can learn AFTER the mod is finished - nobody deserves to have ANY work chastised, (even if in fun) - In my eyes, nobody is the "king of mods here", {{{{Okay,,,'Way of Life', is pretty darned close!
}}}} - we are all in this together -
I must also mention that, the original post was by a new member - I want to make sure that he isn't embarrassed by the other NEWBIE, in the forum as well - even after we become 'JK Super Freaks' with our number of posts, we should remember that, we were ALL here making our first Mods, and our first posts, we were proud (and sort of hesitant), to do both - if somebody had sort of put my first post down, I may have never stuck around, and learned as much as I have, both about Modding up my jeeps, where to get the best parts, where to wheel them, but the best part has been, meeting up with some mighty fine folks as well,,,this would have never happened if I had not felt welcomed here! SOBERBYKER - Welcome Aboard! Stick around - there is a LOT to learn on this website! And please keep up, with posting your Mods!

As for skill, I think using stickies and glue requires considerably more patience and precision, i.e. skill. than threading four nuts. You clearly misunderstood my comment as it has nothing to do with a reference to a girls craft project. It had to do with longevity of setup and its durability.
{No offense of course},,,,but, around here, I'd be careful on how you classify your use of the word "GIRL",,,Not all of us, are sitting at home, learning how to make paper mache projects. I know plenty of guys, that couldn't figure out how to even OPEN a tool box, much less know how to use the items inside! If the guy used "stickies & glue" for his Grille Mod, let him at least be as proud of his accomplishment, in the same way you are with yours - It was well done, and served it's purpose. You may have found a different way to attach a Grille Guard, but, that does not mean that it's cool to bash another's job, by comparing his job to a girls craft project. {again no offense},,,,,carry on,,,,,
Hell yeah....stand up for the glue.
I even fixed a small slit in my soft top using black hot glue....no more wind noise
Interesting. To keep it on the subject, what prompted you to go with "Drake Billet Aluminum Grille Inserts" on your '13 as oppose to "I myself did the EXACT same mod, on my '07 grille" (i.e. plastic mesh and glue)? Do you think people deserve to know limitations of certain approach ahead of time? Can you share or point us to a post where you might had discussed the differences?

And then, your exact quote at the end was, "No Offense but,,,Stickies and Gluing on a Jeep is for Girls" - As if some magical way, by simply saying, "no offense" before your post, it would somehow, make it okay to put down his mod - Exactly HOW did that statement, (regarding girls and stickies), pertain to the "ruggedness & durability" of YOUR mod? - The only purpose that it served, was to rip apart another persons mod, by trying to make yours look like, it was a better way. There is no "better way", we are all on here posting what WE tried, not trying to one up each other on HOW to make a better wheel. And tell me,,,exactly HOW does saying, "Stickies and Glue" ,is for girls,,,point out the longevity of a project and it's durability? It's not that hard to read into what you said - you stated that only "girls" would use stickies and glue, on their jeeps - nothing else - but no offense should be taken - Well, sorry but as a girl, I took offense!
BTW in the answer to your post as to why I chose Drake Billet inserts - the post regarding my inserts, [I believe], is in the thread "What was done to your JK this week" - I forgot about the grille mod thread, to tell you the truth - and will probably post my pictures, and WHY I chose them over the screening method for my jeep. And, In answer to your question, of why I went with the Drakes, if you had not noticed, my grille is bedlined, it is now thicker that the factory grille, I felt that I needed something beefier and hefty, to compete with the bedlined grille - the Drakes served that purpose - I think that it looks better for MY jeep - what I didn't do is see your post (with those oh so complicated, four screws and sheet of metal), and say "Dude, only a people that like kittens, would have done a job like that - THIS is what you should have went with" - and then proceed to post my Drake inserts.
Because, THAT was EXACTLY how, your post came across.
Again, it's not right to come on and put down a mod that somebody spent time on - that was my point in replying to the post
Okay,,,you didn't come on and say - look I did mine that way, and it fell apart,,,and then nicely suggest that, you now are TRYING it this way - No, your post was screaming "Look at MY way,,, its SO MUCH BETTER than what, YOU just did"!

Anyway it's my ride and I like it. I saw countless others on this and other forums that have done the exact same mod, cost pennies to do, looks fine as far as I am concerned, and has held up in the very hot humid weather we've had this summer.
FWIW I chose black plastic mesh because it was much easier to work with and didn't need to be painted. It was less than $10 I have plenty of leftover if any of them do come loose.

Thanks for all that. I tend to take people at face value. I don't get why people feel the need to put others down just because they are, or did something, different. Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors because different people like different things.
One of my friends put it this way; "I build it for my approval, not yours".
ANYWAY -- okay folks back on topic! So,,, what does your grille mod look like?
