So a top is light enough to lift at each corner by yourself, less than 75#. So, I added four hooks to the ceiling, and just use four ratchet straps. Takes all of 3 minutes to lift the top:

Way back when mine was new, I found this method was really easy to get the top off. It was a good bit more cumbersome getting it back on carefully as there is less control, or rather almost none, when letting the strap back out. I'd say a lot of it depends on how high you're raising the top. If you have a high enough ceiling, it's is nice to have a product that lifts it completely up and out of the way.
Rigged a 4 point hard top removal system in the garage after seeing many builds on this thread. Was looking to be able to take the hard top off the 2011 JKU by myself (without wrecking it) and have temporary storage for a few days at a time.
- 4 lag bolts screwed into ceiling cross beams (they each held my weight, 180)
- 4 ratchet straps with 400 pound rating each
- 2 additional webbing straps to connect under top. I am going to add plumbing insulator (rubber sleeve) at top contact points further protect fiberglass and rubber window seals from strap, possibly overkill)
Installation took about two hours ( first hour was measuring and finding beams..)
Was able to remove top and lift 12 inches to drive Jeep out. Took 29 minutes for first time removal using only hand tools to take off the 8 bolts. Can knock 10 minutes off with the power tool)
I have a lot of confidence in the strength of this set-up, but will add a second set of straps if I decide to raise it to the ceiling for longer storage. Thoughts?
I realize this is an old thread/post...but I am really curious about this white bracket holding the 2x4's. Is this something that was fabricated or something that can be purchased? Love the idea.
