I've had mine on for a little over 2 months now and so far it is holding my Nitto 35x12.50x18 just fine.

Pardon my ignorance but, how does this help prevent damage to the gate if is still attached to it ? other than bringing the tire closer so there is not as much leverage. I have a friend that wants to upgrade to 37s and he's curios (and me too ). Thx

It doesn't necessarily prevent damage to the gate, it's just a stronger mount, that has the ability to hold a larger tire without vibration/movement that you might see on a stock carrier. It's holds the tire firmly against two braces to keep it from moving when going over bumps, which is a huge contributing factor to worn out hinges, and warped gates. I went with it because my spare would not fit on the stock carrier, and I can't go for a bumper/carrier combo right now. eventually I will, but for now, this is my option. We will see how it goes.
