Well, its been a year and a half since my original installation, write-up, and post, and I still haven't found a good excuse to ditch this tire carrier. Everything remains solid. No creaky hinges, no rattles, no sheet metal deformation, or other issues - all with my 37" BFG mounted spare. Have others had a similar positive experience?

I agree with the above post. I have a 35" on mine but I have had no issues with either the carrier or the tailgate. I had the 35 on the stock carrier from Jan of '07 (a few weeks after delivery) until about a year ago. I bought the Smitty carrier and mounted it up. I've been running with it for about a year now with no issues. The only thing I've had to touch up was the t-handle...a quick pass with some flat black took care of it.

Default Installed this carrier last week

I just installed this carrier and I love it. Easy to install and built rock solid. Good alternative to high priced bumper/carrier combos.

Ive had mine installed since last summer and about a month ago my rear breaklight broke off at one of the screws. Other than that it has had no problems.
I tried contacting smittybilt about this but havent got a reply, this was about a month ago when it broke. Good for the price anyway

I'm going to be running my procomp wheels and 35x12.50/17 on it and I sure hope it holds up. These nitto trail grapplers are heavy!

I'm thinking about getting this as well.. I keep trying to save up for a nice rear bumper / swing out but things keep getting in the way..

Just running my factory spare tire now and it would suck to need it.. I think I might test my luck on this.

Default Rotopax or other gas cans?

Hey guys! Anyone found something that allows you to use this tire carrier and mount some Rotopax or other gas cans? Here's my deal- I only run 33's on an aluminum 16" wheel. I dont need a giant heavy tire carrier. I just want something beefier than stock that can handle 4 gal or so of fuel. I originally thought this carrier with Smittybuilt's I-rack would be perfect! After all the Smittybuilt web site says the I-rack works with"any factory or aftermarket Jeep tire carrier". But a quick call to Smittybilt confirmed, except for the tire carrier we make! I was also looking at the Vector Offroad mount, but I dont think I can get it to work with this carrier, either. At least not without some fabrication.
