~Mods please feel free to sticky~

I have been seeing alot of questions reguarding the electrical wiring systems in our new Jeeps. There are a few dangerous pitfalls in the Jeep that i feel everyone who plans on doing any add on electrical stuff should be aware of.

Ok now the legal jargon is out of the way, here is the remote starter installation guide for the 2007 jeep wrangler. As soon as the 08 is released (im assuming not much will change) i will post it here.

The first thing to take note of about the 07 and up wranglers, is that Chrysler has implemented whats known and Multiplex wiring or MUX. The purpose of this system is to reduce the..exscuse the crudity here, cluster f**k of wiring that is required in a new vehicle. Basically it allows multiple signals to travel to the various componants of the vehicle and the Body Control Module (BCM) and the Engine Control Module (ECM) via shared wires.

For more on MUX systems and its history in the auto industry Click Here

Alot of the systems most of us need for the things we add such as cb's, radios, remote starts and alarms, fog lights and various other devices can safely be added if we remember to tap into the regular 12v portions of the vehicle wiring and NOT the MUX wires.

IF you were to put a straight hot wire or a straight ground to a MUX wire you could most likely fry the attached componants such as the ECM or BCM. I dont have to tell you that these items are VERY exspensive to replace!

Alright HERE is the wiring chart. Let me know if this doesnt work. I can post it as a picture instead.

Below are some documents and notes about the wiring. As soon as i can get a few more scanned i will post the keyed bypass solution and the diagram that shows the resistor values and how to set up the MUX wires for remote start without a bypass. I should mention that none of this will compromise you vehicle security anymore than it already is now. You would either use a self contained bypass module that contains a similar chip to the one found inside the Jeep key, or use a key with wires wound around it under the dash.

this bundle of wires in the passenger footwell (upper right corner) has the wire for the dome light.

the yellow wire with the thin white stripe is the positive wire that controls the dome light. tap into it to add footwell, or other lights, such as a rearview mirror with map lights, that turn on and off and dim with the dome light.
here is a close-up of the wire, in the bundle. i have placed a quick splice connector on it.

Default Wiring

Thanks for wiring diagram, it's help out alot. I could not locate starter wire in the switch, accordance to 2007 form of color and location, violet/green in hte ignition switch does not exist. I did the voltage check on all the wiring in the steering column. I'm a little bit confuse on the difference between the ignition voltage and starter voltage. Pink/white tested 12v @ON and running, blue/red tested the same way. Is there other test I could test for to locate starter wire, from the starter solenoid the is yellow/gray. I pretty sure it change color somewhere in the wire harness, because I could locate yellow/gray in the steering coumn.

Thanks again

the starter wire is Multi-Plexed on the same wire as the accessory. Either Violet green or violet brown. On mine it was violet brown. Do not put straight ground to this wire it uses resistors to activate relays via the BCM Either hookup a bypass module that does this for you, or check the12volt.com for resister values.

Finally got around to scanning these for ya guys 2007 is identical and 2009 hasnt been released yet id imagine it hasnt changed any.

Keep in mind if you use the diagram above instead of a bypass that does it for you, you still have the transponder to deal with.

You don't happen to have any other wiring diagrams, do you? I would love to Re-wire my stock stereo w/ sattelite radio so it is direct, enabling me to listen when the Jeep is not running and the keys are out of the ignition.

Off the top of my head i wonder if you put 12 volts to the radio fuse in the fuse box? unhook the side attached to the radio and put another fused 12v line to it

I've got a quick question about the wiring/alarm in the '08 JK; is the factory alarm built-in to the ECM, or is there a module somewhere under the dash?

I'd really like to install a simple 12v siren like this:
http://www.surveillance-video.com/sa...hannelid=SHOPC

and have it sound instead of the horn when the factory alarm goes off. (but without replacing the horn, either.)

Has anyone tried this, or at least even seen an alarm module, or a wiring diagram of same?
