A big deflector on the front increases the drag quite a bit, but decreases the flow around the tubes so they don't make as much noise.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Bryan.
Love the idea, I just installed a Congo Cage this week and was considering different options for killing the wind hum. Will give this a shot and let you know how it goes!

Thanks!

Steve, (or anyone)
Have you tried this yet?

My biggest complaint about the rack right now is the brassy little KM logo's that constantly rattle. I'm gonna have to silicone them into silence when I can remember to. I'd prefer that they were black too.

Finally had a chance to test this out proper and it works like a charm at getting rid of the deep hum. I was riding around topless yesterday on the highways with a good head and side wind and could hear nothing. Great solution but now I just need to find some black rope instead of dorky looking white. I do notice a loud whistle when I run with the rope on and the soft top closed but I'll need to test a bit more to track down the cause.

The logo rattle also drives me nuts; and instead of bolting them on where you might have a chance of tightening them, they went with rivets. I'll be going the silicon route as well.

One other thing...to fit into my garage, I have to remove the basket (stupid old short house and whatnot). I barely clear the garage entrance with the frame on. Has anyone come up with a good way to remove/replace the basket solo? I've started laying a blanket on the frame and then lifting and sliding the basket in place and then removing the blanket. This at least helps to keep from scratching the powder coat too badly. I hate that I have to remove the basket so often but I don't really have the time or money to raise my garage entrance at the moment.

I got my Congo Cage this week. I started the install tonight and will finish in the AM. I have all the parts including the prop rods. It seems that Kargo Master is making constant improvements to the congo cage. The rear driver's side vertical bar on mine is curved to better tilt around the liscence plate. Also, my rear u-bars have 2 holes in them. Not sure why. It may be to give a height option on the horizontal bars.

There are a few things I already don't like:

1. The prop rods to hold the rack up. This seems like a last minute idea someone had when they couldn't think of anything better. Like using a 2x4 to prop your car up while you change the tire.

2. Having to unscrew the bolts from the front brackets to tilt it back. Come on...they couldn't figure out how to put a quick release somewhere on there? I live on the Florida panhandle and it rains at least 4 days a week here in the summer. I'm always taking the top down and putting it back up. Having to unscrew the bolts and use the prop rods to tilt it back turns it into a small project. If anyone has an idea for a quick release, please share.

3. I'm sure the wind noise will suck, but I'm going to experiment with the rope and pipe insulation that some of y'all recomended.

I'm loading the kayaks up on Sunday and going on a road trip. I'll let you know how it performs. I'll also post pictures when I'm done with the install.

This took way too long. I have a problem with my front u bar that goes over the front seat. It's either too wide or is not bent enough to line up with the windshield mounting brackets. This is a problem I have not heard of. I made sure I didn't get the front and rear u-bars mixed up. One side is about an inch too wide to fit righ on the bounting bracket. I'm posting pictures. My wife and I had to muscle it on, but there's a lot of unnecessary stress on that bolt. I've contacted KM about a replacement piece. I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so I'll post more about it in a week. For now, here's some photos of the problem:

I have one on my 2 door and found out I do not have to lean it back to lean the soft top back. I got thumb screws off of ebay to quilckly take my soft top off. So I just remove the thumb screws for the front rod of the soft top and slide the top underneath the rack and then reinstall works great so no removing the 3/4 inch bolts and leaning the rack back

I did take the soft top completely off w/o having to tilt the top back. I assume that I should be able to put it down w/o taking the top off. The only problem is that I often run it in sunrider mode as I have to quickly put the top up for the T-Storms we get out of no-where here in the panhandle.

As far as the problem I have with my front u-bar being too wide, Marsceles over at KM is also hooking me up and is shipping me a new part.

The rack worked great for the kayaks on the road trip. The only problem is that the Thule kayak stackers I took off my 01 XTerra don't work well with the round bars, so I'll have to get some hully rollers from yakima. I attached a pic (the pink one is the wife's).

As far as the wind noise...just take off the top and doors and it goes away
