I had to cut the inside a couple of times and it looks all hacked up. Take the whole bumper off and attach the plastic part to it then attach the whole thing to the Jeep. I didn't and it was a PITA.

okay i got some pics, nothing special just blackberry pics. okay the real trick is, is to cut a huge hole out of the inner plastic like it was said in here earlier in this thread. i thought i was gonna have this off and done in about an hour, noope. like 2.5 yesterday and another 2.5 today. from fighting with the air dam to putting the last nut on. and running around getting longer bolts with washers that i'll end up taking back. and the gap at the end i guess is like that on all JK's so it's new to me. but all in all it came out alright, cut up my hands, smacked my wrists on the metal bumper, tasted some mud, blinded by mud, burned my nech on molten plastic, smashed my thumb.. every word in the book later i'm finally done.. lol

Default ARG! No luck...

I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but I cant get ANYthing off... the Grill, the panel under it, the panel below it nor the bolts on the backside of the bumper... What could I possibly be doing wrong?!

DK chill man, i know it's a reeeaaalll pain in the ass but bare through it. for the plastic rivets on the air dam put a flatblade screwdriver and push the center screw down, (mine were stripped) and that should push the head out, grab that with plyers then the rest of the rivet will pull out. the grill doesn't have to come off and neither does the little plastic piece. there are two bolts on the ends of the plastic (15mm socket) careful with those, the t-nut came out of the plastic with mine once. once the plastic is off take off the metal bumper, this was a real bastard for me, i had to go buy an 18mm deep socket and get in that tight spot and finally get it loose. un-do all those and pull off the metal part. the key to putting in these tow hooks is to cut a massive square in the underside of the plastic piece(dremmel worked for me) like a 4x6 inch at least, cutting into the side a bit for clearance for the hooks. on the top of the plastic you only need to cut the back third of the inset part, i did the back half to be safe. then put it all together and instal as one piece.

Thanks so much! so putting the flat head in... do you mean under the washer like part of the screw? or come in from the backside and push it down? I'll have to try that... Are there any tricks to getting the bolts off of the bumper (when its still attached to the jeep), Do I actually need to force the heck out of it to unbolt? I just dont want to push too hard on anything and snap it.

Thanks so much for all the help I am going to get a deep socket 18mm tomorrow, and give it another shot. Thanks again! Any other advice you have I will take!

no problem, i checked this thread out after starting mine..

but for the plastic rivets for the air dam, on the reverse side of the rivet, put a flat head inside between the plastic screw and outside of the rivet(you'll see what i mean) and push the screw down. the plastic screw should then poke out enough on the outside to grab it with plyers. and as for the bolts, the plastic ones shouldn't be so bad, but the metal bumper bolts will need some muscle. check out the pics in this thread about cutting the holes in the plastic, remember the huge cut on the inside is key. anything else lemme know

alright awesome, thanks! I thought about doing the flat head driver idea, but I didn't know if it would damage the screw so badly that I wouldn't be able to get it back in. Hopefully I can get it to work! thanks again. I'll PM you if I come up with any other problems.

Default Just as a heads up...

So, anyone that likes doing their own mods, Im right there with you - but this one is one that can be REAL easy, or REALLLLLL difficult. When I did it, I managed to run into every single problem known to jeep. If it werent for Yamaha90, I dont know if I would have gotten this done properly...

Take this as heads up that if you get frustrated easy, this may not be the best thing to do. Yes, It can go perfectly smooth... but it can also drive you crazy.

Good Luck
