Plasti Dip testing
Decided to join the club and just did my stock 18's! I started off with the spare, took it off, and used the 3x5 card trick with nickels. I had some cheap thin 3x5's and they ended up being more trouble then not, they kept falling out when the spry hit and knicked the fresh paint on the rings. The nickels worked very nice on the lug holes though. I said screw it for the 4 mounted ones and decided to spray it without cards and kept them on the jeep. I stuffed a lot of newspaper up in and behind the wheels to make sure no overspary got on any of the brake components and gave them 5 nice light coats. Then I took a pocket knife and ran it along the edge of the tire/wheel with the blade against the inner wheel ring after the final coat. Then most of the plastidip peeled right off of the tires without any touch ups needed to the rims. I did have to scrub off some of the dip from the raised letters though which took an extra 15 mins or so. I also learned that the farther away you spray the more rough dimension you get. The can says to spray 10-12 inches and the vids online say to spray 5 inches or so away. When you spray 5 inches it will give you a smoother look, When you spray from 10-12 inches it gives you a textured look. Thats why I ended up doing a 5th coat. I gave it a slightly more textured finish which I think looks really cool. Here is a pic -

I finally broke down and did some plasti dippin today. I may of gone a little over board for my first time ever using this stuff, there is definitely a learning curve. I'm sure someone that's had a little more time with it or someone that has more patience than me could of done a better job, but it didn't turn out to bad.
I ended up doing the windshield cowl, rockerpanels, and door hinges. I just got my 2.5" lift in today, and I'm waiting 2 weeks till i get my wheel spacers in before i do the wheels.
Before

During

After (I'll get better shot soon)

Ignore the little lights on the front bumper, I had them as rock lights and just moved them there to see how I liked it, and well... I don't like them there, but I'm going to remove the plastic bumper soon so I'll find a new spot for them when i do that.

thanks man! I think it looks a little off right now because of the wheels, but i don't want to do them now and end up messing the plasti dip up when i put the lift on. I'm not a person that has much patience so i don't want to have to do them twice! lol
