I'm planning on plasti dipping my grill and spare tire tomorrow. Figure i'll try the spare first to see how it works and if I like it. Any suggestions before I get started? I've already done the grill once, messed up and now having to start over again lol. But any suggestions on doing a rim?

Maybe put some nickels in where the lugnuts seat cuz when u tighten the lugs it will make the plasti-dip Peel off around the lug. I didn't do the nickel thing and found out the hard way. And maybe use 3x5 cards to put between the tire and the wheel to prevent overpay on the tire itself. U don't have to tho cuz plasti-dip rubs off the tire pretty easy, just make sure the paint on the wheel is dry first lol, I make that mistake too

Thanks! I knew about the index cards but not about the nickel thing. Makes sense though! A friend told me to be careful putting lugnuts on, but using nickels will definitely make a difference!

Ur welcome, Ya the nickels should help out a lot. Cuz when I plasti-dipped my spare I didn't do it and when the lugs tighten down it just peels off a big section of plasti-dip and then u have to repaint it

How many coats did you spray on the spare? If it looks nice i'm gonna do all of my tires, but figured i'd start with the spare to see if its going to be a pain or not.

I think I only did 2 coats, I recommend you do 3 or 4 cuz it will Peel off easier if u have to or choose to remove the plasti-dip for any reason

I'm glad I subscribed to this thread! I'm about to plastidip my wheels and the nickel thing is a good idea. I didn't even think about the lugs tearing the paint. Thanks for the heads up!

Use quarters, not nickels. Quarter is a perfect fit.

Nickels are perfect size, quarters will leave a ring you can see when you put lug nuts back on, I tried both and nickels is the way to go.
